i went on enchanted princess 7 day cruise, and was bored and can’t figure out why people like princess?

sorry never again for princess cruise

I felt the same way when I got off Celebrity.  Boring bars, nickel and diming to death, laundry outrageously expensive, $9.95 room service delivery.  I get free cruises offered from the casino and I'm not even tempted.

To each his own. I prefer Princess’ more unobstructed deck spaces, longer itineraries, large closets, self serve laundry, and affordable drinks, gratuity and internet packages. We go back and forth between Celebrity and Princess but have never found a fit with Royal Caribbean

My first Princess cruise was on the original Love Boat ship from the television series.  It was old and outdated by then (1994) but I fell in love.  You always retain a soft spot for your first love . .  .

1. Itineraries

2. Staff

3. Ships whose interiors allow the ocean in, rather than feeling like indoor shopping malls

4. The crazy bumbling of their Keystone Kops IT department -- entertainment like that is priceless.

5. Having just evaluated Cunard's drink package for my upcoming Queen Victoria cruise, I value Princes for their reasonable package prices and reasonable per drink prices!

#3 -- that is a pretty big part of why I like Princess.  I hope they retained this on the new design.

At the risk of being repetitive with info on previous posts:

  • Right now, Princess is offering the itineraries we like.

  • We think there has been an improvement in the main theater entertainment compared to pre-Covid.

  • 25 years ago I felt the passengers were all much older than me. Now it seems they have all changed to mostly my age.   😀

I feel if I'm bored, unhappy it's more a me thing than others, I'm responsible for myself, how I feel.  I never set expectations on what things around me should be.  I go on a cruise, expect to have a good time and always do.

I've cruised with 6 lines, most with Princess then RCI also Carnival, Celebrity, Costa and NCL.

Princess remains my fav, best fit for me.  Disappointed in Celebrity because many raves about how much better it was, learned about expectations,  Tried a 2nd time, no better than the first.

I've always felt the crew on Princess far exceeds other cruise lines.  It matters to me, I don't want to be around a bunch of robots.

If you are bored on Princess then first of all you need to call their Philippine call center and you will be entertained for hours if not days.  Also, if The Egg Drop, Paper Airplane and Ring Toss, etc. Competitions in the Piazza do not EXCITE you then it is all a hopeless cause. 😁

Doesn’t matter why I like Princess or anyone else for that matter.  We all have different tastes.  That’s the beauty of having different lines that appeal to different passengers.

I choose my cruises for the itineraries. I have sailed on both Princess and Celebrity. I prefer Princess but if itinerary is right then have no qualms going on Celebrity

As to why I prefer Princess, it simple I find it suits me better. Staff more friendly, other guest more outgoing, more activities I enjoy and I prefer the layout of the ship.

It is nice we all have choices.

Ship was so crowded,  ever felt we  never mattered to anyone or anything.

chopped up deck plans , easy to get on wrong elevator.

food so so, suite perks none existent.

Suite perks not existent ?  Free mini bar, free laundry , concierge lounge, Sabatini’s breakfast, reserve class dining , free specialty dinner on embarkation day. We use all of the above

None of these cause boredom.

#1) the crew and staff!!!
#2) they cruise from our home port

#3) nonstop activities, events or entertainment or places for you can go for nothing but quiet and relaxation

#4) the medallion and app with deliveries throughout the ship

#5) their food and drink

#6) their all inclusive fare options

#7) their beds

I could probably go on and on ..

The one thing I don’t like is that there is smoking in the casino!  Yuk!

I'm going to use Cruise Raider's list as my own since they hit all my reasons.  Hopefully they don't mind!

It's the crew, the crew, the crew!!

I appreciate you didn't care for you cruise and you have made that very evident, but I don't see the connection between these things and being bored.

I get that you really disliked your sailing, but nothing that any of us say will change your mind as you have made it clear that you won't sail with them again.

It's great that you have other cruise lines to chose from and can hopefully have lots of fun on your next cruise.

I like the medallion and laundry rooms on each deck.  I also like the Enclave, International Cafe and packages offered.  Princess has some interesting itineraries.   What I don’t like is the emphasis on trivia as entertainment.  As a person who usually books suites, I am hoping that Princess will continue to offer more amenities for suite guests.

It sounds like you felt the staff were indifferent.  That is surprising to hear about Princess or any other cruise line I've experienced.

The rear elevator to the deck 6 dining room is a dead end.  I think many of us have taken it down thinking we can walk forward.  But not many of us would keep doing it to the point it becomes an issue.  Otherwise I suppose if the ship is new to someone they might not understand the forward, mid-ship, and aft elevators locations on public decks. That would seem to apply to any cruise line or ship.  I guess I don't follow the elevator complaint.

@voljeep she has been on since January but unfortunately goes home the first week of September.  It's a shame that we both keep missing her.

Another example of why we all cruise Princess, the beyond exceptional crew!

As a solo cruise guy most of the time as well as living alone I have found many ways to entertain myself for decades.  On a cruise, princess or others, I do a lot of walking/exercise on whatever version of a promenade deck they have.  I get a few good books to sit out on a deck and read.

I go to some of the shows and events but will leave after 15 mins if i don't like what's on offer.

I like a good afternoon nap and a little TV sometimes.  I do not take the internet package as frankly i really enjoy getting away from all the problems of the world and constant bickering and bad news stories that are hard to avoid when at home.  Sometimes ignorance is truly bliss and ships are generally a good place to be semi oblivious to lots of irritating news.

I can sit for hours on a nice outside deck and just look at the ocean and entertain myself with thinking of all the people and ships that have sailed these waters for centuries and try and imagine what that must have been like.  I also like to think about what is likely going on in the ocean depths beneath me.

I eat mostly in the buffet where i get to know several staff who will come and chat with me everyday especially since i avoid the busiest times.  I prefer not eating in dining room as it just is not my cup of chai overall.

I get off at most ports and wander around either walk or take some sort of public transport or local tour.  I like long cruises of 14 to 30 days.  I do research ports before i get there and rarely if ever buy a ship shore excursion as i just prefer less structure and i am a very good solo traveler that has little to no fear of taking off on my own most anywher.

Princess overall offers good value, good selection of rooms, good food, good staff...i prefer the older ships because of better walking decks and libraries.  Overall i really can take or leave the activities which are sometimes great and sometimes just silly...IMO.

Bottom line is i really don't get bored easily, never have and hope i never will regardless of which cruise or wherever i may be.  I consider myself a lucky guy

I wonder if the OP stayed in a mini-suite and thought there was an emphasis on “suite”.  Without research that could be a disappointment. As for being bored, that is on the one bored. Even watching the ocean go by isn’t boring to me.

Same.

The beauty of watching the ocean and calmness and comfort to travel and see the world.

Not one boring minute for me when I’m aboard a Princess ship.

Affordable balconies, a few elite benefits have me booking Princess over other lines.
