Can anyone help solve a situation

I guess we’ve been very lucky, because ship or private excursion, we’ve never run into seat problems. 

Everyone automatically went back to their original seats after stops. I can’t imagine the pushing and shoving to get on first if that weren’t the case.

 

On a week or longer escorted tour, every one each morning moved back 3 rows, as an earlier poster said. The only people who didn’t were a few  with disabilities on different tours. 

Were people more civil then? I don’t recall any complaints. We also got to know everyone. 

 

On a one day  tour, that isn’t necessary, and by not changing seats, everyone gets to see the best views, either coming or going.

Oh, lordy, I had to laugh here.  We've been on several escorted land tours.  Up to 40ish people on a coach.  People can be so nasty that most of the guides instructed us to move back two rows each day.  The point being that certain rows and sides can have better/worse views.  Not applicable to this but, man, people can be snotty.

Most day tours we have been on people keep the same seats; sometimes we are told to do that by the tour guide.  I don't have a problem with changing to different seats, if 'ours' are occupied.  We often do leave belongings on the seats though, so I'd not be happy if someone moved them.

 

On one longer land tour we took--bus size about 20--everyone moved one seat back each day; that way everyone had a chance at the best seats.  Otherwise, on multi-day tours, there are people who will always try to grab the best seats, so I think this is very fair.

 

Obviously this is different, as in the case of the OP,  when a certain seat is needed for medical reasons.  The driver should have stepped in right away.

 

Also, the idea that everyone in a large or family group (within the exception of parents and small children) have to sit together is silly.

What an absurd problem.  Of course if someone has mobility issues it is common courtesy to let him/her sit as close to the entrance as possible.  Otherwise, what is the point of keeping the same seat after a stop:  most likely because it is in some way preferable — meaning that you should have it all the time and to hell with everyone else, right?

 

Wanting to keep the same seat on the bus is the kind of thing most reasonable people outgrow by the time they move beyond elementary school.

On a recent excursion I had the pleasure of seeing an adult woman sit on an adult man's lap when he refused to relinquish his seat to her.  She was late getting back to the bus (as she had been at every previous stop) and while we were waiting on her someone decided they'd had enough of the broken and uncomfortable seat they had been in.

 

The driver seemed amused and just let the two occupy the same seat until we reached the next stop.

Maybe you have never been on a tour where you get on and off the bus at five or more stops.  When that happens, it is very common for people to leave items on the bus such as drinks, jackets, etc.  It's common sense that people simply take the same seat that they had.  Also, it's MUCH easier to tell exactly who is missing when it's time to leave that particular stop.  Sometimes there is someone who does not return on time.  When people know what that person was wearing, it's much easier for the driver to find the person than if he/she knew that they are one person short. If everyone always took a different seat, not so much.  It's not childlike behavior.  It's common courtesy.

I've been on multi-week escorted trips.  The guides go through and count the number of people who have returned.  And everyone is warned that if they're late they'll be left and will have to find their own way back.  But we're taking about adults on these trips.

I understand that on such tours that people need to be responsible for themselves.  I've never been on a multi-day tour, but I have no problem with a driver leaving on any tour when people don't return on time.  My husband and I make it a point to always get back on the bus early and it's annoying when people are late returning.

On the day tours, the guides seem a bit more relaxed and have waited a few extra minutes or even gone out to look for the missing person.  I guess they think that maybe a bathroom line was long or the person got held up for a few minutes in a store.  We have never left without anyone, but I wouldn't be upset if we did.  When people are given a time to return, they need to pay attention.  Maybe if they are left behind, they won't do it again.

This is so YMMV depending on the twisted thinking or expectations of your tour compatriots, LOL.   

 

We generally are early to both the tour and departure so we enjoy picking where we sit to start out, generally when we return we are early enough and sit the same place, but if taken by someone else, not a big deal.    Have yet to be on a tour with "reserved" seating, its first come first serve, duh!

 

   Nice to get their early and get a seat up front, but if someone more in need, needs it no big deal either.   I'm luck most of the time that I can waddle to the back of the bus.

I confess I didn’t read every reply to this but good grief.  Suffice to say if some jack wagon started shouting in my face and threatening me or my wife, or another passenger that couldn’t defend themselves, the need for travel insurance would become readily apparent to them very quickly.

That has been my experience on multiday or longer escorted tours.

On shorex tours, it is usually return to the same seat every time.

On ones that act more like a shuttle it is return to whatever seat you wish. 

On Private tours, (with others) we tend to rotate around the van or car so everyone gets a gig in the front seat etc.

It never crossed my mind, on any trip, that it might be an issue to shift seats.

Shouldn't be an issue, unless someone is taking one of those seats that should be left open for a truly disabled person.

This. It's just easier to return to the bus, especially after a short stop and take your seat. Otherwise you end up in the situations on this thread where there's a group of more than 2 together that is now trying to find new seats together. My experience is that almost always, whether or not the guide asks people to return to the same seat, people will. One person who wants to change things up just mucks up the whole flow for everyone. I personally don't care what seat I get in the bus, but I surely don't want to have to check every seat, pocket, and overhead for someone's possession to see if it's "free" to choose a new one after every stop. Plus, I usually do leave items on the bus myself.

Driver took our picture and they were in the background...  showed it to the proper person and they knew who they were so they did keep an eye open.

Sad that you go celebrate you 25th anniversary and you have to encounter idiots like that..

Oh well..... another cruise already set for Feb.  2021
