Thanks, I took a few more but I wasn't sure if folks wanted to see them. Maybe tomorrow, when I have faster internet, I'll post a few more. I go to the Seaport a lot as I find the grounds rather peaceful later in the day and since I'm a member I don't have to pay everytime I enter.

I love seeing photos of old sailing vessels with their masts and many ropes so I enjoyed them too.

Pass on the leech bucket.  Dad sent me a photo of a leech getting a feed on his friends hand on the weekend.  Ewww.

Hopefully this will be the last update for tonight.

Literally in less than 10 minutes since I talked to Vikki things changed again and she's on her way back to her parents place.

The CT scan came back.  What they initially thought was bone protrusion was nothing more than cuts and scrapes from her fall.  Sending her home and told her to see the fracture clinic at home on Monday.  No major break and no surgery required....good news.

That is great news.

More misinformation he only played in 9 games during Mantle’s time all in 1967 and at that time Mickey was playing first base.

is there a formal night on a 3 night cruise? 🤔

The 3 and 4 night Freedom cruises I have been on (1 of each) didn’t have a formal night. This was last September shortly after cruising started so I don’t know if it made a difference. Here is Royals info, but I think they are usually on 5 nights or longer.

  • 3/4/5 night cruises - 1 formal night*
  • 6 and 7 night cruises - 2 formal nights*
  • 8 to 10 night cruises - 2 formal nights*
  • 11 to 14 night cruises - 3 formal nights*
  • 15 + night cruises - 3 or 4 formal nights*

*The number of formal nights is at the ship's discretion and can vary by itinerary.Main Dining Room/Specialty Dining Venues

Ok, I'm done boring you all.

I've been to Mystic several times, usually as part of a long weekend at Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun casino's when a break from gambling is needed. Been to the Seaport - and the Charles W Morgan - so I don't find any of those pictures boring. In fact, it brings back pleasant memories.  Also been to the infamous Mystic Pizza. the center point of a movie starring a young and unknown actress named Julia Roberts. Pictures from the movies adorn the walls. The pizza isn't bad either.

When we've been unable to get a room at the casino's, we'd often stay at a hotel near Groton, CT and visit the submarine base there, where the USS Nautilus - the worlds first nuclear submarine - is now a museum.  Takes a special kind of person to be a submariner.

After Frank retired from baseball he joined the FDNY.He was not working on 9/11/2001 but he heard about what happened and drove to the area to do whatever was possible. He tells people that he lost 343 friends that day .He did not know them all personally but they were his “brothers.I shall refrain from posting about him as a Yankee any longer on CC.

Do you understand what I am saying ?.

Frank certainly seems like a stand-up guy and is a hero as far as I'm concerned. I did not mean to disparage him in any way & hopefully my post did not come across as such.  My apologies if it did.  I only meant to infer that sometimes nostalgic stories seem to grow in size as time goes on.  We all do it.  I have no issue with you sharing stories he's told you. 🙂

Add me to the list of people that are driven nuts when there are no spaces between pictures.  I like to see captions for each picture.

Me too and a do try 90% of the time. But the way I do it takes ages and occasionally if I'm in a hurry I let them run together

It is only 2 1/2 weeks before we are to leave for Rome to start our 10/19 Odyssey Holy Land cruise and the 10/31 Transatlantic back to the states.  We would spend 4 days in Florence before getting to Civitavecchia to start the cruise.   I should be really excited and packing by now.  Instead, I am faced with physical challenge and uncertainly of whether I can take this trip.

Last Saturday, I woke up and felt excruciating sciatica back pain from my lower back all the way down my leg.  This was the worse I've ever experienced.  I couldn't get out of bed.  Every move hurt from the shooting nerve pain.  I couldn't sit up, stand or walk.  I felt like I needed to get to the ER but didn't know how I was going to get in the car to get me there.  Figured I'd need an ambulance where they'd have to roll me onto a gurney to take me there.  But eventually, I did get out of bed because staying laying down is worst for sciatica.  You need to keep moving.  So, with the help of DH, I leaned on him and scooted little by little and got out to the kitchen.  In that condition, I thought how would I be able to make this trip.  If it hurt to sit, how was I going to sit for a 12 1/2 hour flight let alone all the tours that we would be doing at each port.  We had come to the realization that we may have to cancel this trip if I didn't improve.  So since then, I have been on pain medication, nerve pain medication, muscle relaxant, heating pad, etc. This Tuesday, I will have video appointment with the Spine Clinic.  I may have to receive an injection.  That's a big needle I'm trying to avoid.

So, this is where we are at at the moment.  We had been planning this trip for 3 years.  I always had a fear that either my sciatica problem or vertigo problem would change these plans.  And sure enough, I am having to deal with it now.  I guess it's a blessing that I wasn't on a ship when this episode happened.  It would be so far away from home that I don't know what I would've done.

Anyway, thanks for listening.  Please pray for me to heal enough to dull the pain and for it to subside a bit where I would be able to sit down and able to walk.

So sorry to hear, especially with the timing of your much anticipated holiday.

Hoping and sending 🙏 that you make a very speedy recovery and still can enjoy your holiday

Sue

A few pictures from the party yesterday.   First, the important stuff like cupcakes.  These were delicious.  My favorite was the chocolate/ peanut butter ones.

Son-in-law lined a small football field in the back yard, so the kids could all play some football theme games.

They staged everything in their garage, and under a canopy we took over.  Great idea to keep the mess out of the house.

The kids, and all the adults had a great time.

Looks like a great party.

We did football (soccer) ️ themed parties for our sons when they were kids. Mostly had to be Indoors though as they both have winter birthdays.

My DH would love those peanut butter/chocolate cup cakes too

Growing up, we used to take Cornish pasties on picnics, to the beach, and on day trips in the car.
When I was first married, 61 years ago, I decided to make Cornish pasties for my half British husband.

They were a disaster. What I made was an almost hollow casing with a slice of onion, some slices of potato, and a hit of ground beef slightly larger than a marble rattling around inside.

The beef must have been 75% fat to shrink like that.
I never tried again. So much effort, so little reward!

I must admit I've never made them but think you dice the onions, potato and swede and chunks of steak beef. They should be packed with filling and it makes a lovely gravy/jus as it cooks.

It's the only time I eat pastry as normally it gives me indigestion

This looks remarkably like my doctor’s office. Minus the leeches, of course, but everything is turn of the century period pieces.

I really need to check in here every day! There have been thousands of posts in between the last time I posted, and now!

Hope everyone is doing well and had a good summer.

I cheated on Royal in late June and sailed NCL for my first cruise back since Covid started....It was incredible to be back on a ship, but I missed Royal a lot.....so.....I am headed on a B2B on Explorer out of Miami, leaving on November 6th 😀 Really looking forward to 14 nights onboard.

For the first time, I placed bids on higher cabin categories (I am sailing solo so I really need the extra space of a GS lol)  I am currently in a balcony (unfortunately not the same one, but a few cabins apart) for both weeks. Wondering if anyone on here has ever won their bid? I am absolutely fine in my balcony, but the waiting game gives me something to do for the next 40 sleeps before I board!

Thinking of doing a LIVE report....you know, for old times sake, and also because I need the navigational expertise of @oceanboy to ensure I know where I am at all times 😂

I think it is wise you are getting a second opinion at the Orthopedic, with that hospital going ever which way with a diagnosis I would be very leery with whatever they say.

Might be a reason why that hospital isn't very busy.

Hope everything turns out okay. Very surprised they pulled on it first without seeing a  cat scan first. But may have read that wrong when what took place first.

Agree. Hope Vicki gets better soon.

My ex-son-in-law was a nuclear submariner.  When he was stationed in St. Mary's Ga. Naval Base, my daughter took me and my sister-in-law to see one of the subs, while my SIL was out to sea.  My sister-in-law is claustrophobic, so she stayed outside with the Marine who was guarding the sub.  Amazing to see the nuclear missiles and/or torpedoes up close and personal.  Their sleeping quarters amaze me that they can actually be comfortable sleeping as they do.

Jim and I were at the Mystic Seaport  last Fall and toured the Charles W Morgan also.

Helen,

My DH is also thinking of you. He asked me to attach this link, dealing with sciatic pain. In Israel, it gets raving reviews....

Be well,

@FromSea2ShiningSeaI feel your pain (well, not right now, thank goodness).  I've had sciatica since getting attacked by a student in my class well over 20 or so years ago.  I had gone to PT for over six months after this incident, and came away with great exercises that are so very helpful.  Jim and I took a road trip years ago beginning in San Francisco, all along Rt.1(?) with many wonderful overnights along the way until we arrived in San Diego.  It was a magical trip!  I do hope you begin to feel better and will be able to go on your planned trip.🙏

If it is Monday, it must be baby back rib day.  Time to prep and slow cook them for supper tonight.  Grandson says that it is his favorite meal.

That is the first of a couple racks.  Then to season them.

I can’t believe we got them for less than $3 a pound, and they have a lot of meat to them.

This is the time of year for bulk trash pickup.  I am always amazed at how much stuff people set out for pickup, and how many people scavenge the piles for things they want to repurpose.  We never have anything, because we get rid of things right away.

This is one thing we jut put out at our daughter’s house.  One owner, but don’t check the crash history.  The little lady that had this one crashed often.

Question about disembarking on our cruise.  In the past, Jim and I have either driven to the Port, or had arrived with a group by bus.  Since our daughter will be picking us up, what time do you think would be the best time for us to get off the ship...would it be much less chaotic the later we disembark?  Or, do you think the passengers will be arriving for their cruise pretty much after we disembark, adding to the traffic?  Thoughts???  Alas, it's probably going to be chaotic no matter the time...sigh...

I'm out east in Fontana and found it for 5.09.  I feel like I won the lottery.  Sadly the best I can do for diesel is 5.79
