Should have some interesting football games this weekend when Buffalo visits Chicago in a single digit game . Most likely no passing in the game in Chicago with those high wind gust predicted, glad the Eagles played there last week , then this weekend. I'm forecasting an upset win for the Bears. It was larger this time, but quick and not alarming. 3.3 and local. Felt this one. ☺️ I hope the bigger earthquake up north did not aggravate our faults nearby. These small ones seem to be moving south as the tectonic plates slide. ☺️ Glad it wasn’t alarming for you and no damage?

We have small ones several times a year. The last big one was in 1989, so we are all slightly concerned that it might be leading up to that again. The small ones (hopefully) relieve some of the pressure on the faults. Thanks for asking. ☺️ Edited December 22, 2022 by Coralc 4
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted December 22, 2022 #81156 Share Posted December 22, 2022 Apologies for not identifying the ski resort but it’s in BC. DS had his first experience of working outdoors when it’s -32 (feels like -42). 20 mins outdoors, then 40 mins indoors to warm up, then back again. Team of 7, working early morning to early afternoon today.

Bailey & Sophie Posted December 22, 2022 #81159 Share Posted December 22, 2022 Our back yard a bit ago. It's been snowing for about 24 hours now. Temps are below 0, wind chill is numbing. John had to run to work today & said roads were very bad - glare ice under all the snow and very slick. We are planning on staying put for the next few days. (Red dots are from our alarm system reflecting on the glass in the door.) 16
Coralc Posted December 22, 2022 #81160 Share Posted December 22, 2022 (edited) Just a little more about earthquakes. "The Hayward Fault Zone is a right-lateral strike-slip geologic fault zone capable of generating destructive earthquakes. This fault is about 119 km (74 mi) long,[1] situated mainly along the western base of the hills on the east side of San Francisco Bay." You can think of them as massive rock walls, that are constantly moving with protrusions. The plate only moves millimeters a year, but above ground, they offset curbs, sidewalks and make big arches in the roadway down the hill. There was a fault line speed bump for a long time on the road along the western base of our hills. As these walls are moving, they occasionally get stuck on the immovable protrusions on the continent on the other side. Because the Pacific plate is moving so slowly, it still sometimes gets stuck. (And for a long time) And because it is so massive, when it finally releases and slips, and keeps moving, that is what causes our earthquakes. It is an interesting and unpredictable event. Rare h20skibum Posted December 22, 2022 #81164 Share Posted December 22, 2022 I feel like Jim Cantore, heading into the belly of the beast for live updates. On an unusual note, Pennsylvania looks like clear driving this morning. I guess those states south of us wanted to show us some Christmas colors. Our route for the next 3 days. Meanwhile, celebrating the winter solstice last night. Granddaughter added wishes for a better 2023 to the Yule Log.

Sydney forecast ☀️⛱️🎄🎅 Sounds gorgeous! Have to say though, we spent one Christmas when I was a teenager in my childhood second home on Sanibel, Florida. It was beautiful, as usual, but growing up in the northeast US it didn’t seem like Christmas walking around in T-shirts and shorts and seeing the palm trees decorated in Christmas lights! Probably the only time of the year I actually enjoy the cold and snow, But I’d still love to experience Christmas in Australia some day 😎

Rare h20skibum Posted December 22, 2022 #81167 Share Posted December 22, 2022 Reporting from Pennsylvania. Weather was clear this morning, until we drove by the newly completed Shell Ethylene Cracker Plant. Then the rain started. I am always amazed at the scale of this multi-billion dollar plant that has been under construction for several years, and just started operating in September.
Keksie Posted December 22, 2022 #81168 Share Posted December 22, 2022 It is 48F here this morning. Supposed to get to 62F later today. My son, his GF and I are going to Biloxi to the casino for the day. Then the cold weather that has escaped the north is going to come for a visit. I will be an unhappy camper for at least 5 days weather wise. It will definitely feel like Christmas. Brrrr the coldest night will be Friday at 17F. Pipes are covered, plants are in, pets never stay outside and Rocco's jacket is by the door, now I need to find my heaviest jacket, gloves, scarf and maybe long undies.

Does she have a plan B on getting out? Description ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON THURSDAY TO 6 AM CST SATURDAY... WHAT...Snow and blowing snow producing occasional white out conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, most of the snow occurring Thursday. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph expected. Wind chill values of 25 to 35 below zero expected. WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Illinois. WHEN...From noon Thursday to 6 AM CST Saturday. IMPACTS...Falling or blowing snow may result in white out conditions with zero visibility at times, making travel extremely difficult. Power outages will also be possible as a result of strong wind gusts to 50 mph. Roads will likely quickly become ice covered as temperatures rapidly fall Thursday afternoon. ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 to 35 below zero are likely Thursday night through Friday night. Wind chills of this magnitude can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 20 minutes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPARED No other plan for getting out other than to wait it out and get on a flight when she can. The power to her apartment in Chicago is being turned off on Saturday so she really can't stay there and since she is traveling with her cat she has booked a hotel, if necessary. We don't have our hopes up that she will make it to FL for Christmas.

Also hoping everyone in the path of the storm stays safe. We’re expecting rain and wind here starting tonight with temps tomorrow in the 50’s. I hope the roads dry out before temperatures plummet so we don’t have icy roads. I don’t mind driving in snow, but ice terrifies me.
