And let's not forget the redundant emphasis of "all y'all" !!!  LOL

Glad to see you call it redundant! Nobody I know ever says all y’all.

I thought that is supposed to be the pleural form? At least that was what I learned on this thread way back when we were being taught Southerese.

I was about to write that as well.  Y'all (singular) when referring to one person and All Y'all (plural) when referring to a group of people.

At least, that's how I remember the lesson on "How to speak like a Southern".

EDIT: Never mine, I just saw @jagsfan explanation above.

Y’all is plural. Short for you all, which is plural and a shorter way to say all of you,

You is what we say to one person.
Y’all is what we say to more than one.
That’s how we tell Southerners from pseudoSoutherners!

Quite contrary to what we were taught here that y'all is singular. Besides, you are in Florida and we all know that is a misplaced northern state. I don't know what to believe any more. 😁

Or in Pittsburgh-ese… we say Yinz

This Pileated Woodpecker is pretty ticked off that a gang of 4 raccoons ate all the peanut suet last night.

I feel your (and the woodpeckers) pain.  If i forget to take down my suet feeder, Raccoons always steal it and eat it all.  I usually find it wedged in the fence slats.  Mr. Raccoon hasn’t figured out how to get it through or over the fence yet to completely steal the whole feeder.  We have lots of different birds visit our feeders.

Woodpeckers I’ve identified are downy, red headed and yellow belllied sapsucker - No pileated that i have seen.

Y'all is used both singular and plural when talking to one group or more.  When you want every group to know they are included then all Y'all.

We are trying to decide if we should book a discounted casino cruise on Norwegian for June.  Our “free “” cruise with balcony upgrade is pretty decently priced.  Free casino drinks, two specialty restaurants, wifi.  To Bermuda

Sounds good to me!

Well, in at least our part of Virginia, @jagsfan has it right.

Addressing a group, it ensures everyone knows they are included - in the invitation, compliment, insult or whatever.  You being the correct plural of you in English is overturned, with good reason.

New England folk with a reputation for practicality can surely see the merit in this.

Don't see any problem with Pittsburgh yinz either.

Anyway my one friend asked me if the drive is getting to me. How could it. It is like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

I know exactly what you mean... When we're crawling inch by inch in the heavy traffic to fetch the grands (at least ours is "only" 1.5 hours each way), that's what keeps me going 😘

Zoey is adorable, and Christina is beautiful.

To me too, as long as you go with very low expectations regarding the ship/food/service...

@reallyitsmemaThe kids are done then but nobody wants to go, going to give our friends who have cruised with us a call.  The problem our price is real cheap, nobody else will get it!

Hopefully, someone will want to go.  We love Bermuda.  It would be good to have someone with you as support.

We are doing Oasis again soon.  It is sold out and roll call is lots of kids, so should be interesting.  I am 0 for 2 on staying healthy on cruises since the restart, hopefully I break that streak!

Oasis was just too crowded when we went in August.  Unfortunately, there was one group of quite a few, that ruined the trip for the rest of us.  We thought it was just us until we started talking to others around the ship.   The price this year is a lot higher than we paid last year.   Come to Bermuda!!!,

I wish we could!  We always cruise in May for our anniversary and a late birthday trip.  Can't do June too this year since we have a family wedding to go to, so DH will need to take a day or two off because everyone is going to be in town.  Our October Oasis sailing was really crowded too but we figured we would try again thinking it wouldn't be too bad since kids are still in school in the northeast.  Well, our sailing has been sold out for weeks.  Luckily, we splurged on a GS, so we will be able to hide in the SL and Coastal Kitchen or our balcony.

The niece of one of my son in laws graduated the Macaulay Honors Program at Queens College.

I graduated Brooklyn College. At the time I was there it was considered an elite school .

I only had 3 friends in HS who went to colleges out of NY.

Everyone in TX - Dallas area, says y'all when talking to just one person as well as more than one.  I never heard anyone say all y'all although quite a few have stated in here that it's plural.

Dr. Phil says "y'alls" when talking to more than one person.  According to my friend Google, he was raised in Oklahoma and TX.

When I a kid and we spent summers on Long Island at our grandparents’, the neighborhood kids marveled at my southern accent.
By the time we came home to Florida to start school, my friends were shocked at my Yankee accent. Every year.

This is so parallel life, lol! When I was a kid we visited my dad's parents on Long Island during the summer. I thought it was amazing how the ocean was always so cold!

@Luckynana I graduated from CK in 1970.

When did your friend graduate?

When I went there, the school was divided into the girls’ section and the boys’ section.

Each had there own wing of the school, sharing a mid-building lobby, gym, and auditorium.

The cafeteria was shared, but there was an invisible line in the middle separating the girls and boys, strictly patrolled by teachers on lunch duty. The school became coed a few years after I graduated.

So, I didn’t know too many of the boys except those on the basketball team.

For some reason, I dated a few boys from Malloy HS. My friends and I went to dances there

Yes,it is a small world. For example,my

DH had cataract surgery last Thurs. He had a follow up visit Fri.

We were chatting with some other patients in the waiting room. One of the gentleman went to the same grammar school where I had my first teaching job.

He graduated in 1962, I began teaching there in 1976.

MJ🙋🏻‍♀️

Adam would've graduated in 1976;  however, since he was the baby of the family, his siblings were more than likely at Christ the King while you were there.  His oldest sister, Mary, went on to become a special ed teacher, and his older brothers went on to become NYPD.  Coming from a strong Iriish family, his brother Mike played the bagpipes for NYPD.
