Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

We will be on the Discovery Princess leaving out of Los Angeles.

Mazatlan @ 1:00 on the day of the eclipse will be ground zero.

Barring a major rain storm or huge cloud cover, the captain is planning to sail around that day to get us the best position for viewing the eclipse. Even though some people are bringing their own, Princess is planning to provide viewing glasses for all passengers.

Sounds wonderful!

Enjoy your cruise.

Yeah that does sound great. Like I said, not looking forward to the crowds in the finger lakes area. See what happens with the weather. If it's looking to be overcast or even partially cloudy, I might opt to keep my reservation on Keuka Lake for the 99.5% totality instead of wanting to be directly in the path. If my house were in the path, I could probably rent out camping space in my lower yard, for a premium price of course 😁

So what happens on these. Nightly concerts in the theatre by individual bands / artists - or even more frequently during the day at various places around the ship? Quite an extensive line-up for just 7 days. Sounds cool.

Yes there is a nightly concert in the main showroom each night and also some shows in the afternoon in main theater , then there are several other stages with show to the wee hours , plus shows from afternoon to midnight in pool area . Problem is trying to pick the shows you want .

We left hotel about 11:15 and was on board in less than 15 minutes we have a large suite and get total vip treatment, escorted the whole way to our suite. Concierge and butler connected my iPad and wife’s laptop and phone. Had lunch in suite restaurant, ordered two lobster rolls which I love , they only have that on first days lunch . We also get two liters of liquor, we requested Hennessy cognac and Glenlivet scotch , we sometimes bring home these bottles since we have premium drink package and prefer drinking places with live music. All our luggage was delivered by 2pm and we gave butler instructions on what to stock in our fridge. Tonight show is Gino Vannelli at 6:30 then a really good singer at 10pm . Another perk is we get free specialty restaurants, but tonight we will eat in Luminae which is suite restaurant.

You don't have one of the penthouse suites, do you?

George sounds like a awesome cruise. Following.

Packed up some books from a cabinet. Not moving those books. I'll get more if I run out. Trying to sort before movers come. I hate moving, trying to keep my eye on the prize. I need to get busy and get it done. Time ticking by.

Tomorrow I start taking eye drops. Says 3 days before surgery. 1/2 day tomorrow? Sat and sunday plus half a day Monday. Cataract surgery isnt until 3 pm Monday.

That's the part that quite frankly worries me a bit. This event will unfortunately bring out the undesirable elements of our society.

After all the money spent on planning, preparing merchandise, etc. wouldn't it be a bust if the weather does not cooperate?!?

This is what happened to us a few years back.  Wasn't supposed to be a total eclipse but close to by Charleston.  We are about 2 hours north so decided to stay home and see what we could.  Right as it all started the clouds rolled in.  Know some who traveled to Charleston where they had a little better luck.  Said they wouldn't do it again.

Our PA house isn't too far from the path so would have thought going but here now so not coming back quite that quick.

No we have the next best it a royal suite, ship only has 2 penthouse and 8 royal suites but we get the same perks , we have a hot tub on our balcony that we never use. This is third year in a row that we had the same exact suite.

Im so Jealous! I take it he is singing with the house band and not his band??? Hope he does “Brother to Brother” which depending on who the band is will determine if they can pull it off.

I am sure it will be house band , last time he was on he wasn’t even in the main theater . Other than Foreigner I believe they will be all house bands but not sure.

Anyone have plans for viewing the eclipse next month? We made reservations at a hotel in Geneva, NY since it's in the path of totality. Here's a really cool site to check it out:  https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/where-when

Our house is in the path, so we don’t need to go anywhere.  Just waiting to see if any of the local bars start offering total eclipse drinks.

School kids get out early to watch it, so it is possible we may end up with our grandkids for the event.

Please let me know how he is. How long is his set and what songs you remember? I will be interested in booking a future cruise he would be on.

Interesting video for those who want a little more technical explanation of what happens during a total solar eclipse.  Included are some experiments that may be fun for kids, or for grown-ups who are geeks at heart (like me).  Unfortunately, we're too far away from the path.

There are 2 penthouse, at the stern of the ship taking up the entire stern. This ship is the same size as a Radiance class ship. I believe they might actually have a refrigerator iin the PH.

He ended his set with “Brother to Brother “ set was only a hour , he had 7 musicians backing him up , not sure but I believe two were from his band . I really didn’t know any songs but my wife loved it . I believe I already told you , he was going to quit the business and go back to Canada when he waited in front of A&M music and convinced Herb Albert to give him a chance . Fabulous first day ended the day listening to a Canadian solo artist who we really enjoy ( she has been on this cruise last few years) great covers of Springsteen, Petty and others . Will post a couple of pictures later.
