Same here.  And the smell of many campfires. Brings back memories of when I used to go tent camping in a much younger day.

My son in law who hung out with the former Ranger player just texted me that where he is (5 minutes from me) it is the smell of campfires.

I only slept in a tent once.I was working in a day camp in Staten Island .

There was a sleepover outside in a tent in July and one in August.Everything was fine in July but in August I woke up to find a snake next to me.I lost my desire for tent sleeping after that.

Sometime last year I posted a then current picture of myself and my granddog Beuk,a then current picture.

Several months ago a person posting in the Floataway Lounge asked if I was male or female and I posted a picture there of a young Lenquixote66.

I tried to also post it on this thread but for some reason I am unable to do so ,I have no idea why.

Earlier today I auditioned for a Singing Group for people with Parkinson’s.

I had to sing several songs by the Turtles,Beatles and other artists.

The last time I sang in public was when I was in college.

I know nothing about music but surely the tryouts are not to see if you qualify but where you fit in . These singing groups for PD patients and caregivers are supposed to be therapeutic.

Thank you.  We are going to try to make it fun again.  It won’t be long until grandkids will not want to spend time with us, because their friends are more fun.  Glad we haven’t reached that point yet.

@h20skibum  cherish every moment and take lots of videos, Mark.

My first time in Vegas was 2003/2004 when they were still trying to be a family friendly destination with hotels having massive pool complexes complete with lazy rivers, wave pools and waterslides. Many of the old gangster hotels like The Sands, The Desert Inn, etc. were long gone & the Stardust was dying while the new “themed” hotels had already been built all over that were designed to appeal to families such as Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay & New York, New York with its roller coaster. There were rides on top of the Stratosphere town and Pirates of the Caribbean pirate show at Treasure Island.    There were a few signs of the old Vegas on The Strip with a couple of small run down casinos that still offered 99 cent Shrimp cocktail and 25 cent roulette tables. They were demolished a few years later to make way for even bigger hotel-casino resort complexes. So now if you want a taste of old Vegas, you need to head downtown to Fremont Street but even that is changing.

We stayed at The Flamingo, one of the few old-time casino’s left on The Strip. The rooms were a bit dated but it had a fabulous tropical pool complex that was an oasis of relaxation and calmness amid the hectic frenzy of The Strip. Plenty of shade trees and waterfalls to cool off in, it was a great place to relax during the day before hitting the town at night.  After bouncing around to a few other hotels, we returned to Flamingo but now it was during the “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” heyday. The rooms were remodeled nicely but the pool area was turned into a “day club” complete with thumping music and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds so thick you could barely see the water.

Back in the good old days, Vegas would practically give away rooms and food to get people to come and gamble. Now, they make so much money off food, rooms, shows, concerts and day/night clubs, the gambling is almost a side business.

We usually stayed in what was the Las Vegas Hilton many years ago since Jack's trade show was based in their convention center.  It was located off the strip and therefore more quiet.  However, we did stay at the Flamingo Hilton once and I do remember how beautiful and serene that pool was, so "unVegas like". You described it very well. So sorry to hear what it's turned into.  I don't think I embrace progress very well.

There was a wonderful Chinese restaurant in the hotel next door, I think Oriental Palace. So good!

It was better when the mob owned everything. I miss I was age earlier to go and see Sinatra, Sammy, Dean and all the great entertainers of that era.

We Italians know how to do things right.🙂

Thank you, Dani.   We enjoy every minute we get to spend with the grandkids.  They grow up too fast.

My only time in a tent was in basic training and I didn’t care for it.

Master Bedroom Stain is on,next up 3 coats of top coat.

The 2 doors you see in second picture is walk in closets.

Just noticed there is white streaks by that pad, those pics were taking early, while he was still putting down stain. Not like that now.

I will take a few more pictures once the first top coat is completed. He is actually here now putting on that first top coat.

Tomorrow first thing in the morning the second top coat will go on and sometime later in the afternoon he will  come back and put on the last and final 3rd top coat.

The haze from the wilderness fires is so thick & unhealthy that tonight's Yankee game has been canceled.  Fortunately,  I found out just as I was about to get on the Metro-North train to head down.

Snapped this picture of the TZ Bridge  from the Tarrytown train station.   Remember the post from a week ago, crystal clear blue skies, Rockland County 3 miles in the distance?  Picture doesn't capture the weird orange glow adequately

Edit to add: On a normal, foggy day this wouldn't be unusual.  But this is the haze from the 400+ Canadian wilderness files over 700 miles away & it still smells like a campfire.

Phillies game which is even further South in Philadelphia was also canceled tonight against the Detroit Tigers because of the smoke/poor air quality.

@h20skibum. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Susan🌺🍹🧉

I hope she is having a magical day.

Great to hear Lucas will be staying with you this summer.   I'm sure his cousins are happy too!  Look forward to hearing and seeing all the wonderful photos.  You guys plan some of the best activities.

Thank you.  We are already having some good times.

We got to California without any glitches.  Flight left exactly on time, and we got into San Francisco a half hour early.  The bus we take from the airport to Marin County was running late, but worked out perfect, because we only had to wait 10 minutes after picking up our luggage.

Got to our son’s house, and spent a little time with them.  They are working from home today, so Susan and I surprised our grandson by picking him up from school.

Getting ready for a nice birthday dinner out now.

Today is a special day, in so many ways.  The first thing I did today was wish Susan a Happy Birthday.  I had to do it from a hotel room, because we decided to stay near the airport last night so we didn’t have to get up too early.  This is happening right now.

Yes, we are flying to California this morning, so we can be at our California grandson’s fifth grade graduation ceremony tomorrow.

We will get to spend a few days with our son, and his family before we fly back to Pennsylvania.  We plan to pick up something special to bring home with us.  For long time readers of Dani’s thread, you can probably guess what that will be!!

Yes, this will be the start of……..

IMG_7472.thumb.jpeg.214136c460967f5b5074a3501e8691df.jpeg

When asked what he wanted to do this summer, Lucas said he wanted to spend all summer in Pennsylvania with grandma and grandpa.  So, for the third summer in a row, he will be here until he goes back to school in August.

We have some of the old time favorites planned, and maybe a few new ones this summer.   Time to ramp up the energy level to keep up with an almost 11 year old.  Wish us luck this year.

Happy Birthday to Susan!  What better present than to fly to California and bring your grandson Lucas home with you both after attending his Graduation!  Looks like another fun'filled Summer with all of your grandchildren, Mark, and lots of pictures for us all to enjoy!
