Rare Tapi Posted August 11, 2020 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Silly question maybe, but better than the prevailing topic these days. For those of you who keep track of the number of cruises you've taken, do you consider a back to back cruise on the same ship as one cruise or two cruises? Say that you sail on a ship to the Western Caribbean one week, followed by an Eastern Caribbean sailing, do you say that you took two cruises, or one cruise? Thanks! Just count the booking references. As you are aware Cunard WC can be sold as seperate Voyages, so therefore they could be considered b2bs, but a WC has as single booking reference, so therefore one Cruise. SelectSys Posted August 11, 2020 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Two perspectives for me- points and experience. Points would count in some way as 2 cruises while the experience to me is only 1 cruise
Ashland Posted August 11, 2020 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2020 With RCI it's "TWO" cruises with two separate booking numbers...Onboard OBC or expenses are not carried over or combined.

Personally, I would consider it 1 cruise at the time. However, as time goes on, and I'm counting my past bookings, I'll probably forget and consider it 2 cruises because that's how it shows in the history. That said, some cruise lines.....I think HAL and Princess are 2 of them.....advertise some B2B itineraries as 1 cruise.

Depends - if the two cruises were sold separately, it's 2 cruises. If the two were sold as one cruise - 1 cruise. We've done 2 B2B combos - a Mediterranean cruise followed by a westbound trans Atlantic. They were sold as 2 separate cruises, in fact we booked the TA first then added the Med cruise several months later. We also did a east/west Caribbean B2B, that were sold as separate cruises. We also did a river cruise (Bucharest to Cologne) that was sold as both 2 separate cruises (Bucharest to Budapest & Budapest to Cologne) and as one cruise (for a lower cost than booking separately). Since we booked the longer one (combined) I call it one cruise.

drsel Posted August 11, 2020 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2020 You have to count them as two Cruises, because the cruise line will do the same and your Cruise history will also show them as two Cruises

mnocket Posted August 11, 2020 #11 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Since the only reason to keep track of how many cruises you've taken is to satisfy personal curiosity, it's seems to me it's totally up to you to use whatever rules you chose. I mean, whey someone says "this is my 19th cruise" I've never heard someone else reply "oh yeah, what is your accounting method?".
klkaylor78 Posted August 11, 2020 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2020 great question actually -I guess if the reason for the count is critical If for frequent cruise status - just have to follow the rules of that program and make sure your count is correct for your status although most of those are done on days/points rather than bookings/segment count. Some with bonus multipllier for higher levels of service If status in the "online" cruise world then I would count every segment - some "combined cruises" have two segments but are under one booking number- just to get to the top of the heep sooner - LOL

TheOldBear Posted August 11, 2020 #14 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Last years transatlantic round trip [Brooklyn - Hamburg - Brooklyn] was counted by Cunard as a single 'voyage', but it could have been booked as 4 separate cruises [Brooklyn - Southampton, Southampton - Hamburg, Hamburg - Southampton, Southampton -LeHavre-Brooklyn] Oddly the spa concession treated our round trip as two separate bookings, had to get the pursers office involved so we could use the spa days we paid for on the return trip. And that is a bummer. We have a 7 night with a $600 OBC and will spend very little onboard. Followed with a 14 night TA back home and $100 OBC. My wife has the spa booked, we purchased the UDP, and will have over $400 in grats added to our account. Will have to hit the casino bank on last night of the 7 nighter. We've never really felt a need to keep track. Didn't realize it was a contest. Who wins? The person with the most cruises or the one with the most nights? We consider any cruise, whether single or multiple segments, as a single sailing experience. As for accruing loyalty points- it is whatever the cruise line says it is. I really don't care. That's a whole different question, there. Some claim honest numbers, like how many actual nights they've sailed. Yet, others claim their total score with additional awarded nights such as suite and spending awards.

Flatbush Flyer Posted August 11, 2020 #20 Share Posted August 11, 2020 What to call multiple "segments" of a continuing cruise is just that: "segments." IMO, all that matters is how it/they get you an added discount while adding to your bank of loyalty points. And how that happens really depends on the cruise line in question. For Oceania, some popular multi-segment cruises are marketed as "extended journeys" (with a single booking number). If you book multi-segments that are NOT marketed as an "extended journey," it is considered a "custom cruise" (also with a single booking number). Depending on segment lengths and loyalty status, O Club perks can vary (including Cruise Credits, which are the basic element considered for changes in loyalty level and award of a complimentary cruise. Who wins? 😂 Thanks for all the responses! Greatly appreciated. Unfortunately it’s not for a contest (although, compared to some of my more seasoned cruising friends, I would definitely loose!). In my 35+ years of cruising, I have never taken a B2B. However, I found one for 2021 that caught my attention (Covid permitting), which is why I decided to post the question. It’s definitely not one of those questions that should keep me awake at night, but bothersome enough to make me post on cruise critic! 😉 Once again, thanks everybody.
