In all the cruises I've taken, as well as many times as I've done all-inclusive resorts, I've never once gotten sick.  Hand sanitizer is my friend.

After surviving the past year without getting infected (well, I guess I could have been asymptomatic.... hmm)  my new view on hand sanitizer will be forever be burned in my memory. Soap/water and sanitizer will always be my my first thought after I touch something outside my home.

 

How long does this constant thought last..... who knows??? One thing for sure, I will always use those auto dispense sanitizer stations wherever they are setup (land or seas).

Several posters have discussed masks or not when vaccinated.  If I am on a cruise ship - or any other locale - and everyone is vaccinated, well forget the masks.  Otherwise, when do they ever go away?  What are the conditions to go back to pre-Covid?  Perhaps some people will start wearing masks during flu season as a precaution.  Who knows?

 

But mask wearing requirements/regulations/recommendations were brought in specifically due to Covid-19.  Once "everyone" is vaccinated, well sure anyone can wear a mask if it makes them feel more comfortable or safer in a group/crowd, but there should be no forced requirement.

Then almost everyone will walk around without a mask vaccinated or not  because many who have not been vaccinated will not want to wear a mask. Just looking at someone without a mask one cannot tell if they have been vaccinated or not so the unvaccinated ones can get away with it.

Royal Caribbean just announced that vaccines will be required for all of their sailing for everyone 18+. Those under 18 who have not been vaccinated will be required to have a COVID test. I'm sure the other major lines will follow suit.

Same here.  Received 2nd Pfizer on 27 January.  Do not eat out in restaurants (too many people mask-less), wipe the car down every time its used, grocery shop early AM Sundays to avoid others, etc.  Will continue to do so until CDC gives the "all clear" even if that takes another year, plus.  Cruising will be like that - wearing masks in public areas, dining as far away from others as can be arranged, etc.  The idea is to remain safe and help keep others safe.  Throwing off the mask and yelling "whoopee" doesn't make it safe to cruise.

Fair enough.  You go ahead and follow along with continued mask wearing.  Is there a situation in which you see not wearing a mask in the future?  Your words above might imply there will never be a condition in which you feel safe without one.  That is your personal decision/choice as to your own health. 

 

No one has ever thought that the public should be wearing masks during flu and cold season.  Perhaps this will be a practice in future.  I just don't expect to participate.

 

BTW, the flu vaccine is far from a magic wand.  I have never had a flu shot.  I hope that the Covid-19 shot turns out to be much more effective and holds up the efficacy numbers quoted thus far. 

 

I think the day will come when some folks will still want to wear a mask and others won't and I think both groups are going to have to respect the other's choice.

Actually, there are many success stories where I wouldn't bother to wear a mask. In China, people voluntarily wear masks because they have symptoms of something. Since they voluntarily wear masks to protect others, I wouldn't bother to wear a mask if I have no symptoms. Do what they do!

 

In countries where they have squashed covid, mask wearing is precautionary for the vulnerable. Why should I wear a mask in a place which has not had a case in weeks? Do what they do! Squash covid. Don't co-exist with the disease!

 

Last week, I was watching a news clip of a live outdoor concert in Queenstown, NZ. Not a mask in sight. Six thousand people jammed shoulder to shoulder. Do what they do.

Not sure what you are getting at.  My mind is open and working and I am not the typical sheep just going along with whatever the politicians come up with next.  That doesn't mean I am reckless.  Although some people thought we were crazy to spend two months in South Florida this Winter.  It was safer and more enjoyable there than at home where we are pounded 24/7 about Covid-19 issues. 

 

We had to suffer with the 14-day quarantine Trudeau punishment while, if we had spent a long weekend in Toronto, it would have been much more risky than the two months in Florida and no one would have chased us, phoned us, made us do three tests (all negative) and kept us locked up for two weeks.

When Herd Immunity has been defined as having a high percentage of a population/community immune to an infectious disease, precisely how does the Herd Immunity concept define a population or community?

 

If everyone onboard a ship has been fully vaccinated, wouldn't the population of said ship have herd immunity while onboard?

 

I keep hearing percentages being tossed around by our medical 'experts' but they have given no clear, concrete definition of when Herd Immunity has been achieved for which specific communities; a city, a state, a country, a continent, the world. 

 

Has anybody actually heard a clear statement of when we can stop being subject to these 'emergency' provisions?  ( I mean something precisely specific, not a vague Herd Immunity statement.)
