Hardly a concern. One of the biggest snow jobs of covid has been hospitalizations. No one was ever in danger of being overloaded. THe largest hospital chains in the country saw admissions down 10-20% from 2019 numbers. I guess if you say it, it must be true. 😉

It's a good excuse to continue the welfare state expansion. We have restaurants in our town closing "temporarily" for 2+ weeks because no one will work. cured Posted April 20, 2021 #38 Share Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) It is not just the CDC that the cruise lines are fighting. It is hard to staff a ship when a country where a large percentage of staff comes from is experiencing one of the worst 2nd waves. India now has a double mutation variant. It is hard to remember that this is a global pandemic, not just a political stunt in the US. The poorer countries are experiencing far worse outcomes than the Western World has. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/interactive/2021/india-covid-cases-surge/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-india-deaths-hospitals-second-wave/ Edited April 20, 2021 by cured

Cases were very high in January from the winter/holiday wave of cases. All of that has changed. Hospitals are no longer overrun with covid patients. Now they are trying to let public know it is safe to return for elective procedures as most hospitals and Doctor offices are hurting financially due to fear of going. I will never forget seeing those refrigerated trucks on the news as well as the mass graves at some locations around the world. Horrible! She is doing great now thanks. A pacemaker was installed and she now has more energy than ever. I am finally scheduled for a joint replacement, one that was pushed off for a year due to no elective procedures. We are down to just cases a few a week, so I am now able to schedule my surgery!! Those refrigerated truck morgues were heartbreaking. And a good percentage of those elderly who died from other conditions who tested positive for Covid as well, that doesn't mean it caused their deaths it only means it may have hastened them.

cured Posted April 20, 2021 #45 Share Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) I am amazed at the amount of people that will believe any conspiracy theory that is thrown at them just to be able to assuage their intense fear of the virus, convincing themselves it is a huge global scam, enabling them to put their heads in the sand. Even seeing what is happening in the rest of the world is not to be believed. Never in the history of the world have democratic republics, socialists, democracies, communists, authoritarians, dictatorships, and every kind of political entity, been able to work together so well to perpetuate a global scam that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is not really real. They have ruined their economies and dug mass graves just to perpetuate this myth that a global pandemic exists. I wonder how many global meetings they had to have to come up with a mutual plan to stop the world's economy. It is a miracle it is. Facts are pretty easy to find without resorting to the dreaded Main Stream Media (hint: the scientific community and peer reviewed studies.) Here is a useful article for those that are so fearful: https://www.quirkbooks.com/post/worst-case-wednesday-how-make-effective-tinfoil-hat Edited April 20, 2021 by cured 6 1

griffy116 Posted April 20, 2021 #47 Share Posted April 20, 2021 I was in the hospital, admitted due to sepsis, during one of the surges. I was COVID negative. I was put in a "Non-Covid overflow area" after spending the day in the ER area because there were no beds even in overflow. The numbers were bad and they were downplaying them in our area. Our schools opened on time with no mask requirements and our county suffered. One of my nurses said she worked in another county that sent her to mine because they were so short-handed. My overflow area had very few nurses and I knew by the clock they were working more hours than their normal shifts and working above and beyond. They were stretched thin beyond their limits. Even the cafeteria and cleaning staff were working OT trying to service everyone, so to all those saying "it wasn't that bad," you're wrong. Love cruising, and have been cruising for over 20 years. I'm fully vaccinated and still wear a mask out because we have too many people not willing to inconvenience themselves to get this under control so that one day we can all cruise again. We've lost no family to COVID, but plenty of co-workers and neighbors. If you're afraid to take the vaccine, I fear you won't be cruising for a long time. If you're indignant at wearing a mask, I don't think you'll be cruising soon. I can't imagine being so desperate to cruise yet unwilling to not only follow the requirements, but to defy the rules and regulations that you would forge a vaccination card.
erinsmom03 Posted April 20, 2021 #48 Share Posted April 20, 2021 I am so tired of the senseless arguing. There is no convincing the people who have decided to follow the line of thinking that this is all a hyped up hoax (good job on that one, world governments!). It is especially sad on a day when my community is mourning the death of a beloved middle school teacher and coach who lost his long battle with Covid. If people would just stop being so selfish and care about others, maybe he would still be alive.

I watched the news a lot last year, probably more than was good for me. I remember that there were times when some hospitals, in some areas, were overwhelmed. The crisis was real. But unfortunately too many people in our culture seem to think that some crisis means lots of crisis, without getting into the nitty gritty of NYC vs rural South Dakota. And when people on here or elsewhere lead with "well someone I know was in a bad way, so stop saying it wasn't that bad," they're committing 2 errors: first, they assume that their incident is typical of everyone, everywhere, which it isn't, and second, they gravitate towards news reports that confirm their worst fears, aka observation bias. It isn't a binary issue, i.e. was Covid really bad last year or wasn't it? It was very bad, in some areas, at given points in time. It was NOT an ongoing crisis everywhere, all of last year. Interestingly, I saw a CDC stat saying that 78% of people who were seriously ill or died from Covid were overweight or obese. Why isn't the CDC warning people about being overweight? Who knows? https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/08/covid-cdc-study-finds-roughly-78percent-of-people-hospitalized-were-overweight-or-obese.html Edited April 20, 2021 by DCGuy64 linked to study

Not one person has stated that hospitals everywhere were overwhelmed. However, in areas where covid hit first, they were definitely overwhelmed, causing most states to shut things down to prevent the situation from happening there.
