New CDC limitations on cruise ship return to service - as of 5/5/21

We have been on 88 cruises  ,started in the 90s . Never have we been  in any restricted environments  .We are fully vaccinated . Should the  cruise line protocols   require masks ,social distancing ,we will not cruise ,save money & take land trips   to our gorgeous  National & State park   system . There we have no need to wear masks or social distancing   .

Y'all need to come to Nashville and I'll take you honky tonkin'. 😁 All entertainment venues are open. I can go to a crowded concert, hockey game, etc. but not take a cruise.  Incredible.

Nashville ,Memphis & the Smoky Mountain National park is definitely on our list .We intend to gly into New Orleans ,rent a car & drive along the Miss  .river  to see the civil was towns & cities  then to Memphis to Nashville to Smoky mountain National Park .This is a April trip to avoid the humidity

@mcrcruiser, if you're not used to humidity, April is a good month to travel throughout the South, especially along the Mississippi.  

 

This CDC nonsense is making me reevaluate my travel plans.  If they continue to push this nonsense, my sister and I may cancel our March 2022 Southern Caribbean cruise and instead fly to JAX and spend 5-7 days visiting Amelia Island and St. Augustine.

I know the feeling, it is so crazy, here in Vegas almost every casino has the authority to be open to 100% if not it is 80% but trust me they are probably all at 120% and actually has been since the beginning of April. Our positive rate raised ever so slightly but has stayed steady for the last 3 weeks. Everything is totally back to normal with many of the shows starting up. Other than having a inside Mask Mandate which I can totally live with everything is great. I just do not understand how vacationing in say Las Vegas among the crowds is any different than a cruise...Oh and yes Buffets are opening up, had a breakfast buffet Thursday morning and I could walk right up to the food and the person on the other side of the dish puts it on my plate. Pretty much the same as it was before.

I guess they are adopting the requirements. There was a poster on another thread that was upset that some domestic cruise company retroactively adopted mandatory vaccinations less than 30 days before a cruise.

I have news for you. National parks DO require masks and social distancing. We’re on a road trip now, just left the Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde which both have those requirements. Heading to Yellowstone today and it also has those requirements as it did when we visited last fall. Bring your masks along. 😉

Ships that carry less than 250 people (pax and crew), do not have to adhere to the CSO requirements.  American Cruise Lines have voluntarily adopted some covid mitigation measures, but as you linked, they are nowhere near what the CSO requirements are.

 

A second difference is that these are US flag vessels, doing completely US itineraries, so they do not fall under the CDC mandate for ship sanitation, they are under the FDA instead.

We are headed to Arches &Canyon Lands National Parks,Utah  this September . We feel things will be quite different by then

Good to hear that Vegas is opening up more . We will be there for a week late Sept   at a Marriott time  share . We also have a grandson & family who lives in Vegas   He is a master sargent at Nellis AF Base   & is finishing his 20 years  there .  We haven't seen them for over 2 years because they moved to LV just before the pandemic  broke out  . for over 30 years I traveled Vegas from mid 60s to late 90s  & saw many changes . much preferred the old Vegas  for the  lounge shows &  the mainliners . Then there had big name entertainment  rather than groups   ,Saw them all . My favorite was Elvis  who first appeared at the International which later became the Hilton on Paradise  ,then it wasSammy Davis ,Frank & Dean   ,The comedians were incredible back then ,especially Sheky Green  .Good memories

Yes we know about that humidity ;because one our sons & his wife were back there for 6 months  .He has a friend near Nashville & did some work with him . We once also lived on the East coast for a relative short time .Most of our lives has been in Calif ;which has a very dry type climate bs the East coast  or south east 

 

 We feel that why cruise if we are bound by  all kinds of restrictive protocols

Was just in Arches and Canyonlands the end of April. Make sure you stop at Dead Horse Point State Park...probably better than most of Canyonlands.

 

Because these areas are all outside, masks were not required, but capacities in Arches were reduced and enforced. On weekends, Arches was considered full by 9 or 9:30, and nobody additional was let in for a few hours. So go early.

 

Agree with @Cruising-along. We also went to Zion and Bryce. Both were tightly capacity controlled, and masks were required in any indoor spaces.

  Yes we are aware of how beautiful   it  is at the State Park .We will be in   Moab 4 days & Grand Junction visiting 5 days ;which is 1.5 hours from Arches   .We will use the Gypsy app which is fantastic as a guide

Of course, the CDC has to set very restrictive conditions for cruises without a vax mandate! We know how easily covid spread on the Ruby Princess...

It's now up to CCL! They can accept the vax mandate (95/98) in order to sail out of the States. Or, they can try a test cruise. It's as simple as that.

 

IMO. CCL is hoping that FL's anti-vax mandate will provide cover. Note that they have not accepted CDC's 95/98 rule to resume in CA! Politics will just complicate the matter and delay your next sailing.

Actually when I visited the Grand Canyon and Crater lake masks were required in all buildings. Dining was limited and involved distancing.

 

Yosemite is limiting access requiring reservations. Masks required inside. Dining inside limited. Some campgrounds closed.

Also the national parks I’m visiting this week even require masks in a few outdoor areas where it can be congested and social distancing isn’t possible.

Expressing that you disagree with the CDC placing the same restrictions on a cruise with vaccinated passengers as they are placing on a cruise with unvaccinated passengers and choosing to spend your vacation dollars elsewhere for the time being is hardly throwing a tantrum.
