Like I said, if some people are that concerned about their health  right now, the last place they should be is on a cruise ship. The vast majority are not at all following any of the suggested protocols the ship has posted. Why they take the chance and then complain about others not doing likewise is similar to dressing in the DR. 😄 

People will decide for themselves what is appropriate.

Been on a number of cruises since October (7, on both Princess and HAL) and seen a lot of odd behavior at the elevators.  We generally don't take elevators (and we didn't the first three cruises) but hubby hurt his knee golfing and needs to take the elevator during the healing process.  When alone, I take the stairs and can attest that they are not crowded!

 

We wear masks, use our elbows to punch the button, ask the people already inside of the elevator if it's okay for us to join them and have gotten off elevators when too many folks (both masked and unmasked) get on.  Sounds like we've been lucky not to have any rude comments made to us.  Of course it might be due to my husband's presence--he's 6'5".  Lot of folks don't mess with him!

 

We also get off elevators to accommodate those less mobile.  We generally are never in a hurry and can always wait for another car!  I have cruised with a broken leg (used a walking cast) and have first hand knowledge of how insensitive/unaware folks can be on a cruise--and not just at the elevators!

We always do walk off & let the first crowd rush off before we go. It makes for a much easier time so we don't have to compete with other walk offs.

I agree!  I'm tired of people judging whether we should cruise or not.  On our 21 day Enchanted b2b we masked any time we left our cabin or until we were outside.  We masked in ports whether it was required or not.  It was what WE needed to do for our health.  We  had a wonderful cruise; perhaps the best one in 34 Princess cruises.  We had a penthouse suite, and we had a great time whether unmasked in our cabin or masked outside our cabin.  We weren't spreading any germs so maybe we're the ones who should be cruising, not the ones who won't wear masks and don't mind sharing their germs.  Masking is not fear, it's caring about keeping cruise companies running.  We hope to take 2 more cruises this year,  and I don't want to see the cruise lines shutting down again.

It is sad when this behavior is the exception and not the rule.  And even sadder when others think that people who exhibit these behavioral traits should stay home.

I push the close door button when stopping if the elevator is full. Most don't rush it or stick foot in if door is closing.

To me it is the same thing as being called out if you have a different point of view on a subject.  They are entitled to their views but your views don't count or you shouldn't differ from theirs

Common sense says me wearing a mask doesn't hurt anyone  - either me or someone else.  Why  can't people do what they are comfortable with as long as it isn't hurting someone else.

Why bother subjecting yourself to a crowded environment where there might be infective people next to you if you're that concerned about the virus?

What ship are you on?  
 

Why is it up to others to decide if someone else should be cruising or not?  I wear a double mask and always wear a disposable glove in the casino.  Sometimes I even leave a mask on at the pool.  I don’t know if it will keep me well but it’s definitely better than nothing.  You all do you and I will just keep on doing me.

Not weird.  Commendable. It reminds me of the time we were in the “just out of the Princess Theater show” crowd at the midship elevators. Actually, it took a few minutes to even get into the elevator area itself, and when we did, I could see a fairly elderly couple, both with walkers, trying to get on an elevator. Of course, that was futile.  Anytime a door opened, those in front of it crowded on, and they kept getting pushed back. My mom uses a walker, and I spent years on crutches; of course I was going to speak up on their behalf. And I did, loudly, and asked if we couldn’t let them get on the next elevator. DH stood on one side of the elevator lobby and I stood on the other, and when the next car arrived, the crowd parted and they got on. I wish I could have bottled the smiles they gave me.

Just don't moan and groan about people not complying to any standards that would make you feel more comfortable.

What irks me is people who get up early, go up to the Lido deck and put their belongings on a few lounge chairs and then don't show up until hours later for their prime spot.

 

But what really irked me on the last cruise was a bunch of people that now only "reserved" themselves some nice loungers but then also camped out on the adjacent couches in the shade. All day they would go back and forth between them.

I always thought that was not allowed and the staff are supposed to say something when it happens. Disrespect yet again. Cruising is supposed to be fun. I wish we could go back to it and set aside childish arrogant behaviors.

technically it is not allowed but many people do it anyway. A couple of cruises back I was seated on a lounger and I didn't see anyone at their "reserved" lounger for a couple of hours so I removed the towel and items and welcomed others to sit there instead.

On my last cruise in March I was walking on the beach in St. Maarten for over 40 min and, all of sudden, reached the famous naked Dutch beach (I was not aware of getting to it while on my walk). Even though Adam/Eve dress was not required, I just automatically put mine on.  No hassle, no fuss.

Currently at the pools they say (only the back page of the written patter) that chairs with items will have them removed after 30 minutes. 

I have yet to see any crew member remove anything.

In the Show Lounge it seems to be  OK to save seats for your party.

There are no announcements-  written or audable mentioned.

I believe you need to bring the particular 'reserved' loungers to the attention of the towel attendant.  At that point he starts the clock for you.

Is there an "Elevator rank of entitlement" ?  Is that posted at the elevators like the 'dress code' at mdr?

 

- first come , first serve - wait your turn, I was here first

- pregnant women

- wheelchair

- cane

- others ?
