Five days in on

our Alaska cruise I felt like I had a cold. It kept getting worse so I decided to test - BINGO, positive. Reported to medical, they came and tested and we were both positive. An hour later we were out of our 600sf suite and into a 200sf balcony. DW not happy. Since then we have been pretty much forgotten by medical. Guest services and crew chat have been nonexistent. The consierege told us that since we are American citizens they will probably take us to a hotel in Seattle. I hope so.Called EZ air, they said that they would keep our file active and rebook us when the quarantine ends.

Only 1100 people on the ship and it has been one of least favorite cruises. Everything is just a little off, the crew seems lost.

Our original plan was to test via eMed today from Victoria but guess what, no internet. Oh well doesn't matter now.

I'll report on what happens tomorrow.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear you have covid.  I just recovered from it this week and know it’s not much fun. I actually said to my husband, I’m glad I’m not on a cruise ship!

I hope you recover quickly and can get home soon. So sorry to hear they aren’t taking care of you.

Feel better soon.

Thank you for sharing.  I am sorry the virus made its way to your suite.  Any theories on how you were selected?  No masking on ship?  Smoking in the casino.  Etc?

Are you on the Regal or Royal?

I'm always curious too, if you don't mind sharing.   It's a stinking virus that seems to all of us at one time or another.   My newest theory is it is being transmitted thru droplets that land in your eyes (my opinion only) as many of the maskers are getting it as well.

Anyway, I'm sorry you were one of the chosen on this cruise, it certainly stinks to go from a suite to a standard balcony.

No clue where we  were infected. Very few passengers wearing mask but no large crowds anywhere. Went to the theater one night but sat in the back away from most others. We were thinking it could have been the bus from Anchorage to Whittier but we don't know.

WE’ll darn  that you had to move out of your suite and into a smaller cabin and that while on the ship you’re virtually being ignored now that you’ve tested positive. Hope passengers just keep sharing with all of us what is happening onboard with firsthand experience. I don’t know what the Royals itinerary is ,but do you get off in Seattle? Or Canada? Not sure what all the rules are now ,they seem to be changing  often, but seems like five days isolation Is the current trend.

Well I hope somebody keeps in touch with you to let you know what you’re suppose to do when getting off the ship. All the best with your journey home and hope your symptoms don’t last too long .

Of course it’s a virus, it spreads. if any of us knew when and where we got infected ,we wouldn’t do it again, but we’ve all gotta live life ,so on that note… I just find people asking that question ....

Take care.

I certainly don't know their situation but it wouldn't surprise me if it was while eating (unless they always ate outside away from others or in their suite).

We get off the ship tomorrow in Vancouver. Still don't know where we are going. The ship's doctor just called to make sure we have enough of our other medicines until we get home. First person that seemed concerned.

We will have to pay for our hotel with reimbursement through insurance or Princess. $100 each per diem for food. Thank God we have credit cards with a lot of available credit, don't know what we would do if we didn't.

@cruisin4us

I wonder where you got information showing that folks who are careful about wearing masks are getting sick??

I am not surprised that folks got sick on this ship where very few folks were taking precautions by wearing masks

I just put this on a fb page this am...  so interesting to see such a different of opinion on the same trip.  No,  medical  has not called me today, because they told to ME to call if I worsen or if I had questions.  Every meal, I have had the opportunity to order off dining room menu or room service menu. I'm not worried about tomorrow because I know they r slammed.  I will wait my turn...  covid is everywhere.  Yes masks help but not every one feels they need to wear unfortunately.

Doctor just told us that if we are quarantined in Canada, it could be 10 days. I like Canada, but not that much.

We’ll darn if that happens , I guess they ( Princess still doesn’t have protocol down for this yet)

We’ll keep posting if possible and hope you get back home as soon as isolation is complete.

My dad for one.  He tested positive when he got home off the Zuiderdam (Panama Canal, Jan '22).   He and my mom both masked continually.   They were cruising when masks were mandatory.     There are also others on these threads that have stated they masked all the time except while eating/drinking.    I'm in no way saying masks don't work when worn 100% of the time.   But, as soon as they come off to eat for 1-2 hours or drink in a bar, the masks don't work.

Fyi, the reimbursement for the meal allowance comes from Princess, not AON.  We were not told this and had to wait for AON to deny the meal reimbursement before we filed claim with Princess.  Btw, the meal allowance is $100 per day, per person.

Also, make sure to get the full medical report from the Med Center before you disembark.  We were not told we needed this for our AON claim and had to go thru many hoops to finally obtain the 5 page report from Carnival Corp Medical Records Dept.

Hope you feel better!

I'm sorry this had to happen to you and your wife, and I'm sorry that their communication with you and treatment of you are not up to your standards.

Thank you for your report and updates.  Please continue to update us.  Don't strain yourself and get well soon.  🙏

Not sure where 1100 ppl on board came from... cd  said 1900.  Apples? Oranges?  Either way  the numbers of positive cases are still rising including staff.  I'm to get off at 930 where I will be escorted to terminal.  I truly don't no how OP is having such a difficult time..  all my answers are being answered promptly.   I'm fortunate that I live here and can drive home to finish my isolation.  Sorry for those international pax but please remember that you knew about Canadian rules of being in isolation for 10 days if positive (since the border reopened).  If you didn't, then you should have...  again still best trip ever as well as best treatment re covid.  Wouldn't want to get it anywhere else... lol20220516_150926.thumb.jpg.18077366f59b3afa582854529337278d.jpg

I had concerns at the very start of the pandemic when I had no choice but to fly home.  I used N95 masks on the plane.  I also wore a plastic face shield for the times I took off my mask to sip or eat.  Got to tell you....takes a lot of hand eye coordination not to get food on your face shield.  The things we take for granted.

I know several people who have tested positive who wear masks faithfully except for eating. Both on ships and off ships.

I do think the dining room is a vulnerable location.

I have read that eyes can be vulnerable as one can not mask them.

If I self tested and tested positive, I would no tell Princess, especially if it was towards the end of the cruise.

All depends on your travel plans.US citizens flying home need a neg test. Let Princess set-up and pay for your quarantine.  Sitting in the Pan Pacific, took walk and ship is in!
