Rare lyndarra Posted December 20, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2022 How many divers does it take to clean the hull of a cruise ship in 24 hrs? Hmm. Perhaps a drug trafficer forgot to close the underwater hatches.😉

SinbadThePorter Posted December 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I wonder if "hull cleaning" is a euphemism for hole patching? 😱 2

geocruiser Posted December 20, 2022 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I would think that a hull cleaning would be on some sort of a regular schedule, not done mid cruise.

Rare azbirdmom Posted December 20, 2022 #9 Share Posted December 20, 2022 Thank heavens the casino and boutiques will be open! Sorry couldn't resist. It is sad that they are missing Fjordland as that was one of the highlights of this itinerary but something major must have happened to do this. Wonder what "cleaning" is code for? Rare arxcards Posted December 20, 2022 #10 Share Posted December 20, 2022 I wonder if the other possibility is if it is carrying too many passengers on the hull. To look up close, she is way overdue for some coats of that special anti-fouling paint. I don't know if too much flora would prevent a ship entering rather pristine waters, but maybe when they say hull cleaning, they might actually mean hull cleaning.

nnps Posted December 20, 2022 #12 Share Posted December 20, 2022 My guess would be that to enter the waters of the National Park they had to have had a cleaning within a certain time frame and that this had been overlooked.

Sounds like a definite possibility. I was once on a transpacific flight and clearance was delayed as some 'treatment' was past the specified date. The flight crew came thru the cabin spaying aerosol cans of something 😦

NSWP Posted December 21, 2022 #21 Share Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) Clean ordered by NZ Authorities, environmental issue. Unfortunate for the pax. The Coral Princess Environmental Officer will be getting a kick up the rear for overlooking the need for the hull clean. Gwendy Posted December 21, 2022 #23 Share Posted December 21, 2022 In 2019 we were delayed leaving Lima as divers had to clean hull before we entered NZ waters. Apparently it is a requirement when entering NZ from some countries.
icat2000 Posted December 21, 2022 #24 Share Posted December 21, 2022 Maybe its leaking crap and they not allowed to enter into Fiorlands. And they sending divers down to put a patch over it.
Rare Over from NZ Posted December 22, 2022 #25 Share Posted December 22, 2022 Here's what has happened - https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/130847298/cruise-ship-too-dirty-for-milford-sound-after-sea-snails-found That would be extremely disappointing. They're effectively missing 3 ports.. as dropping them in Christchurch on X-mas day is daft.. everything is shut.
