Best RUMOR I’ve ever heard!

IDK, but it would be great!

Yes, that would be great.  We were on a New Zealand to Australia cruise earlier this year and were pleasantly surprised to find that the casino was smoke-free.  I asked the cashier about it and she said smoking in the casino was forbidden by Australian law.

They said this when restaurants went smoke free and smokers still eat out.

I live in Las Vegas and smoking isn't near as prevalent as it used to be.  When MGM redid the Monte Carlo and rebranded it as The Park MGM it went COMPLETELY smoke free.  The same comments came out that it wouldn't last but lo and behold it is one of their most popular properties because it is 100% smoke free.

The number of hard core smokers/gamblers has decreased drammatically because they are aging out and dying off.  With the price of a pack being $11 or more and a carton going for well over $100 the number of younger gamblers who smoke are fewer than ever because there just isn't enough money for both.  Other cruise lines have no trouble with very limited smoking areas.  I think all should endorse it because the major problem with the habit is the exposure of everyone else to second hand smoke as a carcinogen along with having to smell like an old ashtray or decaying dumpster on a hot afternoon from the exposure.

Celebrity already does not allow smoking. I think it’s only a matter of time for other lines.

Back in the day, Carnival had an entirely smoke free ship called the Paradise.  Because of the reduced profits generated from the casino and the bars because zero smokers were on board, it was a short lived experiment.

Nowadays, Celebrity has smoke free casinos.  It would be nice if Princess followed suit, but who knows.

The title says it all… RUMOR.

RUMORs have origins.  Either OP started rumor or heard if from a distant cousin thrice removed.

That was over 25 years ago.  Times change, as do societal preferences and norms.

These days, Carnival installed non smoking casinos in some of their ships. They seem popular and might be the best of both worlds for now. I've heard that Royal has done the same on some of their largest ships.

It's hard to imagine a completely non smoking ship. Unlike on land, everyone is completely trapped onboard for 24 hours or more. I don't see a solution to this.

P.S. I haven't heard this rumor. To me it's irrelevant where it came from, if anywhere.

A smoke free casino is one thing, going completely smoke free might be rough.  People keep bringing up bars and casinos on land going smoke free and people still going...that's because the smokers can walk out front and still smoke. Can't do that on a ship, and smokers being stuck on a ship with no where to smoke will just lead to people sneaking smokes in bathrooms, balconies and other places. SO While I'd love a smoke free casino, I think kicking smokers off the ship all together will be a little harder.

I think it's a matter of time.  We see many comments here about the casinos, how bad the smoke is and I'm sure same is showing up in Princess comments/surveys.

I've been in the casino, witnessed a group of women sitting by the machines, not gambling, just smoking.  It.is.time, long past due.

Also, what about the crew. Make it like downunder and restrict smokers to designated outdoors areas.

Maybe they would get more revenue from the casino because nonsmokers may stay and play.

This is usually what happens when restaurants, casinos clubs and other businesses have gone smoke free.  It has been our experience in Princess casinos that the smokers use it as an ashtray and many are NOT even gambling.

Please .. let this rumor be true!
While I can respect the fact that smokers pay for their cruising habit, just as I do, I would absolutely love it if their smoking was limited to one section OUTSIDE on the ship.  Smoking has no place anywhere inside!  I include that in all my surveys.
The casinos went nonsmoking onboard during the return to service and it’s a shame they ever brought it back, as they had their policies in place .. why did they ever go backwards on that?
I would gamble more frequently if I had some clean air to breathe.  I know a lot of others that share those same thoughts.  Since they closed down Churchills, the problems have seemingly gotten worse and even non gamblers are now just using the casino as their smoking section.
