Well, an interesting start to the day. The 1st Wednesday of the month is our group meeting at the Lutheran church to sew comfort quilts for the U of Washington Medical Center. I arrived early to set up and thought the church had sort of a strange odor. Others arrived and commented but we finally decided it might be natural gas so called to have someone check it out. We were told to evacuate the building so everything was put away and we left (barely an hour into our sewing). Turns out there was work done on the hot water heater yesterday and the pilot light had gone out. Guess we might try again next week. Hope everyone has a better day than this! And stay safe tomorrow!

PLEASE, if it ever happens again don't put away the quilting or anything else, just GET OUT.  Quilts can be replaced, quilters cannot.

Terry, from this day on - I will be sure to show Tana on my post. She is always in my prayers & if seeing it in writing gives her any measure of comfort, it is worth me doing it.

Bless you both.

Ann, thank you but that is not necessary. I always appreciate your kindness.

Wow! You likely know this, but some Jewish communities in Greece date back all the way to the Second Temple period, growing considerably in the first century C.E. The historic communities, including Rhodes, followed "Romaniote" customs and rituals; the name refers to the eastern Roman empire, that is, the Byzantine empire, and at one time Constantinople was the center of Romaniote culture. Romaniotes were vastly outnumbered by Jews coming from Spain and Portugal after 1492, but a few Romaniote synagogues in Greece are still operating. The language of Romaniotes was Yevanic, a dialect of Greek written with Hebrew letters, while those from Spain spoke Ladino, a dialect of Spanish, also written with Hebrew letters.

Paul, I learned something new today.  Thanks.

I'm glad everyone was safe, but please, next time get out, and then call 911.  Roy @rafinmd is correct, quilts and equipment can be replaced, people can't.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

I have some lovely painted rocks that BFF's DD DF made. I'm not a fried clams person. I'm trying to carry my own bags to cut down on plastic bag use. Awesome quote. I wouldn't mind the meal if someone made it for me. Pass on the drink and wine. I've been to Greece, but not Rhodes. A momentous day for the Dow Jones.

It's warmer here today, currently 91F, with increased humidity. Unfortunately storms tonight and tomorrow for the 4th (hopefully early). I was up and out this AM to go get BFF and take him for his Ortho follow-up. The good news is that although he has to keep wearing the boot, he can now put weight on the leg. When I took him home I thought he'd try, but he's a bit afraid to start. He still can't drive. If he's doing ok after 2 weeks, he can put on a shoe (if he can fit one with the swelling). Then he can "practice" braking in the car and probably start driving again. So now I'm home and relaxing. No plans for tomorrow except to do more relaxing. The "furries" are here for an Anthrocon convention (they come annually); it must be awfully hot in those costumes.

@StLouisCruisers Nice that you got to meet @tupper10. I'm glad DH is starting to feel better. Very cute photo of Sadie and the butterfly. Thanks for your great Rhodes photos.

@grapau27 Thanks for the explanation. It's nice that you had dinner out with Sarah.

@ottahand7 I'm sorry your brother's case is so complicated. I hope he can heal. Will it be ok to leave the spacer in there?

@kazu I'm sad that you're in so much pain and can't sleep. Vascular pain can be terrible, but I hope the stents do the trick and free you from the pain, soon. Hugs.

@cat shepard That sounds unnecessarily complicated. if I have a low tire pressure it shows on the instrument cluster, and when I fill it, the monitor reads the new pressure. I don't have to do anything.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Very nice photos from Rhodes.
@doobieb Prayers for your friend Leesa.

@rafinmd I'm sorry you're still dealing with the aftereffects of your computer hack. It's terrible that the perpetrators rarely get punished.

@kochleffel Thanks for the photos. I like that vessel depicting the death of Achilles; and how apropro that your Achilles was acting up. I can empathize with digestive uproars.

@aliaschief Groan.

@RMLincoln It's nice to have a gym there in the community. Enjoy meeting some new folks today and tomorrow.

@smitty34877 I'm sure all of us are happy to lend support to you. Prayers for you all.

@sailingdutchy Excellent Rhodes photos Tony, including those of you, Martha, Ann and Pat.

@Vict0riann Thanks for the Rhodes photos and the one of Oskar.

@Sharon in AZ I'm usually on my PC, but when away from it I check in on the phone, and noticed that it goes to the bottom of the next page.

@Cruising-along Nice photos.

@quilty964 Good luck. I wrapped the better looking loaf and put it in the freezer. The other one I cut today and as expected it shows signs of being over proofed because it was so warm in my kitchen. But it tastes good! That's one thing, usually even the not so great looking loaves still taste good.

@SusieKIslandGirl Yikes. I'm glad you all evacuated the building, before something tragic could have happened.

Prayers for the Care List and Cheers for those Celebrating.

Good afternoon, everyone!

We had an eventful day today.  When I got home from the gym we decided to go to the outlet mall in Birch Run, about 45 minutes away.  So we loaded up in the car and away we went.  We hit a couple of clothing stores and shoe stores.  I got a deal - 70% off - on some clothes for our upcoming cruise as well as some new step in Skechers.  We had a late lunch and brought half of it home for dinner.  Then we headed over to Macy's at the Mall in Saginaw.  That was a bust.  The clothing selection is really pathetic and ugly to boot.  So, we headed home.  All in all, it was a nice day.

@dfish,I made the slaw with the blue cheese but used a vinaigrette dressing and some garlic added in with the onion. DD and I practically ate the whole bowl! Thank you so much.So very tasty!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the blue cheese coleslaw.   You can use any vinaigrette dressing you like.  I don't have a recipe for it, just kind of made it up after having blue cheese coleslaw at a restaurant.  As everyone else has mentioned, you and Tana and the whole family are always in my thoughts.

If the smell had been stronger, we definitely would have left sooner. It wasn't the usual smell associated with a gas leak. We did have all the doors open and shut off anything electrical.

I had to evacuate the synagogue once for the same reason. A heating contractor had installed an auxiliary furnace on Friday, and by Sunday there was a very slight odor of gas. It had built up so slowly that no one noticed it on Saturday. Fortunately, there was no Sunday school that day, so no children were in the building; they would have been closer to the leak. Also, it was a very cold day and half the kids typically ran from the car to the door without coats. I called 9-1-1, the contractor, and the gas company, then told my adult students and a volunteer group working nearby that we had to go outside. Since I knew exactly who was in the building, I didn't pull the fire alarm.

Good warm and sunny evening.
Happy Independence Day to those of us celebrating tomorrow. The weather here is supposed  to be hot and humid with thunderstorms possible.
There’s a thread running on here about a horrible cruise on the Volendam.
I have some thoughts about the situation.but they would get me banned.
@Crazy For Cats, I don’t know if you have ever been to the Oregon Dairy market and restaurant outside of Lancaster. They have an ice cream shop that is selling a patriotic sundae of vanilla ice cream, red velvet Whoopie Pie and blueberries.
Have a peaceful evening.

I was reading the Volendam thread also. Wow, we would both be banned..

Well today has been mostly a bust. Attempting to activate my new phone has taken all day and involved multiple hour+ long calls w/provider, Samsung and my company's IT dept - still not at the "yay I have a fun new phone" state, but at least I can make and receive calls. I'll deal w/all the manual file transfers and other issues over the next few days.

The big issue is not having work email on it so I'm tied to my computer until someone can figure it out. I knew this would happen, which is why I waited until a long weekend to do it.

Technology - ugh.

@kazu prayers 🙏 continue the vascular surgeon gets you back to being fit & pain free soon; glad to hear you seem to have an end in site. Hugs 🫂 🤗

@smitty34877 hugs 🤗 and prayers 🙏 to you, Tana and family.

@SusieKIslandGirl thank goodness everyone is safe and the quilt making will continue.

It's hot - Summer is here. And I cannot attach the screenshot of the weather, so there's something else for the weekend list.🤨

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Just catching up as we’re home from camping.  Woo hoo my first normal shower in a month as indoor water restrictions were lifted!

@kazu so glad you have an answer, just wish you didn’t have any pain.  Makes me never want to have a pedicure again!

@smitty34877sending lots of gentle hugs and prayers for you, Tana and family!

Great photos of Rhodes, a couple more.

Ok, regarding the person complaining, um 9 posts.  In Carnival land, we call them trolls.  someone who makes up a lot of complaints and stirs the pot.  See who else has a complaint.  As my momma used to say, Wherever YOU go,there YOU are.  Meaning, its the You that is somewhere else being You.  On my first Holland cruise, I was as nice as a purring cat.  One of the ashtray cleaner uppers would bring me coffee, and when I got sick, he would fix me tea, with honey and lemon.  I met some wonderful women.  Every one was very nice.  If there was a casino, I dont remember it.  It was wonderful (except for the getting Covid part).

On my last cruise, on Carnival it was terrible.  The doctors were nice, but the food was awful.  I lost weight. And it was on the last day on the ship, I found fruit loops and milk and finally found something worth eating.  The waiters in the restaurant even apologized before serving us that the food was awful.  I got to get off after 25 days, those poor employees had to stay on.  I think they should have made the chef walk the plank.  But I didnt come back to CC and complain.  I have friends that still cruise with them and they all say, the food is awful. And they are now beginning to branch out to other lines.  I dont want to plant the seed that might make some one not get on a cruise.  I just wont cruise with them again.  EVER.  But it was when someone picked up a chair I was holding for DH and I asked him to bring it back, I needed it, he told me to get over it, and walked off with the chair and I called him a not so nice name.  I immediately apologized to the Austrian couple sharing the table with me, and they were laughing their butts off.  No problem, the wife said, he deserved it.  I dont think I have ever done that.  Must have been the fever....from the RSV I got on the ship.  Oh well, if you ever cruise with me, I promise I will try my hardest to behave.  However, I will be the one wearing the mask.

Just watched our local news and the storm we had last night also was an F1 tornado. It was about 7 miles from us, whew.

Carolyn @Cruising-along, the road trip your DD & family are on reminds me of a week long road trip that Craig and I took back in 1979 BK (before kids). We camped at several campgrounds and stayed in some motels. Went to the 4 corners area and all around, Window Rock, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley. We were exhausted!  But it was fun and a really good memory.

Well, I guess I’ll find out on our cruise November 2025!  I sailed on Carnival once and only because I was monitoring the Carnival board for AOL. I don’t really remember the food but I do remember the free Manhattans they gave us. Oh, and I played craps for the one and only time ever.

@Sharon in AZ When we first started cruising in 07, the food was great.  It was great until about 2017, then it was good, but coming out of Europe last year?  The waitress the first night told us that the provider of meat had stiffed the company.  But we went back to Rome, they could have bought something worth eating, but they  were serving the same food for the second part of our trip.  Turns out when I checked with one of my "sail out of tampa " friends  that on all of her 8 + cruises last year, the food was bad.  It only took me two cruises to not return.

I promise my mantra will be "I will behave, I will behave"🙄

Its not normal for Tucson to get tornadoes is it?  I think I have to watch one of my favorite disaster movies about global warming-The Day After Tomorrow.

I just realized, I am off for the next 4 days!  Except for walking the dog, and tis another F1 weekend.  I have found heaven!
