Rare Smokeyham Posted July 14, 2021 #1126 Share Posted July 14, 2021 As I look at different options for cruises I am more and more drawn to Viking, with their no casino, no kids, no art auctions, included drinks at meals, etc. One strong appeal is their smoking policy "Viking vessels are generally nonsmoking. In order to accommodate guests who choose to smoke, there is a designated outdoor smoking area on the starboard side of Deck 8. All other areas of the ship, including your stateroom and veranda, are designated nonsmoking areas. Smoking restrictions also apply to e-cigarettes."

Azamara has the same policy - 1 smoking area on deck 9 next to the pool bar. It is party central for those us who indulge in the leprous, devilish habit.

Grateful that is one habit I never took up, but grew up with smokers. (Sorry - they both passed away due to smoking related diseases, so I might be a little biased.) I am hoping with all the Covid-19 issues, the cruise ships will consider limiting the smoking areas even more. I enjoy the casino, but dread going in there because of all the smoke. And yes, they say part of the casino is non-smoking, but any non-smoker knows, the room is not large enough, nor ventilated enough to block out the smoke anywhere in there. And generally, on the non-smoking nights, the Casino is always very crowded. That should tell the cruise lines something. They do have the Cigar/smoking room and a few other areas to smoke. I understand the addiction and enjoyment some have and that they need a place to go. Also, the comment one person made about disabled people eating too much doesn't make sense. Are they disabled because they eat too much or do they retain their weight because they are disabled and can't exercise as much. Also, their eating does not affect another person's health where second hand smoke definitely affects those around them. So, not a fair comparison. I am a smoker and I can attest that many that I meet in smoking areas are all along same lines to respect the non smoker - I only smoke in casino once and that was over 5 years ago, I have also met what I thought was inconsiderate rude smokers that smoke on balcony, put buts in a water bottle and leave in bags to discard in smoking areas - thats just rude. What also is rude is NON smokers walking on side of ship that designated as a smoking section and act like they are dying walking thru - I get you dont like - but let us smokers have their area - and walk thru on other side 8

We just walk through, not an issue. Princess does not have other smoking areas which are defined by sides of the ship. They are all small areas. On grand class ships when walking the promenade you do pass through a very small area which is under the service stairs near the starboard aft doorway. As a non smoker I feel Princess has smoking areas under control, limited, but there for those that use them.
SHIP TRAVELER Posted August 6, 2021 #1131 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Ex smoker and addicted gambler here. With the new mask mandate, I expect to see changes in the casino smoking policy, one way or the other. It has always bugged me a little that non gamblers use the casino as a smoking lounge, sitting reading a book or screen with no credits in the machine in front of them. I sometimes gamble on Princess because they have had non smoking nights and non smoking areas but I don't gamble on RCCL because their casinos are always full of smoke. I love Celebrity Casinos of course and play every day when I am on board. Many casino areas on land no longer allow smoking, Colorado and New Orleans come to mind and I really enjoy those places. I know they are patronized by smokers who use the lounges provided. Anyway, waiting to see what happens with smoking and required masking in the Princess casino on my up coming cruise. If it is even smoker, I just won't play.
skynight Posted August 6, 2021 #1132 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Ship Traveler. Smoking at designated casino slots are supposed to be restricted to players only. Depends on how the staff enforces. I have not found Princess casinos to be smokie, except in the slot area where smoking is permitted. I am a life long non smoker.

Even though the mask protocol is in place this week Certainly don’t care for that. And masks off when having a drink anywhere on ship- this week’s M&G
Treasure Hunter Posted August 22, 2021 #1135 Share Posted August 22, 2021 I really want to cruise Princess, Elite and favorite line since 1990. Booked to cruise December 4. Booked through the Casino and love my slots but now I will only play early morning or on non smoking nights. I’m afraid of mask less smokers blowing in my face. We are moving more cruises to Celebrity. They give a better discount to gamblers anyway. This lack of protocol during covid is the last straw for me.

I think that you can smell smoke when you walk into the casino on Embarkation day. The walls seem to have absorbed it? With Covid, I think smoking should be outside or in Churchill’s.
rsquirrel Posted August 25, 2021 #1137 Share Posted August 25, 2021 I have never cruised with Princess before. Is it easy to avoid the smoking areas? I don’t gamble but if people are smoking in there I will want to avoid going through to get to another ares. I used to be so allergic to smoke I would have asthma attacks. I changed my diet as per the naturopath’s suggestions and I no longer have asthma attacks due to smoke. I still don’t like the smell.

LewesBeach Posted September 10, 2021 #1142 Share Posted September 10, 2021 I've through these post been searching for a recent definative answer: I know about Churchills, but is cigar/pipe smoking allowed anywhere outdoors? Thank you.

Thank you. No. Pipe and cigar smoking is only permitted in the cigar lounge. From a Princess Patter: "Smoking cigars or pipes outside of this lounge and on the open decks is not permitted." The lounge referenced is the cigar lounge. Smoking of any kind is not permitted in any stateroom or on any balcony. This rule prohibits anyone from smoking pipes, cigars or other smoking materials on their outside balcony.

ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted October 10, 2021 #1150 Share Posted October 10, 2021 I quit cold turkey about 40+ years ago. 2 children in the car and my wife. I had no consideration for them or there health. It stinks, it is disgusting. Now super expensive. How many times will you light up a $5.00 bill before you stop doing it? Never realized how bad I smelled till I quit and could small the stink on others. Never have the feeling I want to smoke. The smell gags me know. Food tastes a lot better and no more hacking. Especially in the morning when I woke up. How many time I got up in the middle of the night to have a smoke. First thing, get that cigarette and a cup of coffee. Stink up the house, stink up the car. Make others smell my disgusting smoke and me. Quit and never looked back. So glad I did. Got to be a strong, considerate person to quit and make your life and others a lot better and healthier. Yup, it is your body and your health. But it is also every one around you. As for ships not doing no smoking cruises. I doubt very much that smokers keep the cruise lines running. It just increases sales, nothing more.
