For all the folks talking about the Carnival Luminosa TP, I'm booked on that trip in a Inside Obstructed View cabin. I'm actually annoyed that the cost has gone down considerably since I booked. I'm planning to call them Monday and see if I can get a credit or something.

I paid $2500 for my room before port fees.

I'm also booked on the Splendor for its 10 day trip to New Zealand from Sydney. That trip I do feel I got a decent deal on - $542 for an interior cabin.

As an update, I talked to Carnival and they upgraded me to a balcony and honored the $2128 price so I'm getting a 500+ refund!

I'm very happy. I've never stayed in a balcony before.

Have you ever sailed in an interior room?

Honestly those of us who do regularly typically see a room as a place to store our stuff, sleep & shower--not much else. Plenty of places to be on the ship, both for activities or quiet time.

I find interior rooms cozy. I know it’s gonna be a closet, but….. I’m actually kind of looking forward to it. I think it will be nice. A new experience! Since I travel solo, I only go to my room when I’m ready to go to bed and watch a little TV before I go to sleep. I don’t think it will be an issue. But I am definitely going to blog about the cruise when it comes and I will be sure to share my thoughts!

Riviera river cruises has at least five cabins on each of their ships that do not have a solo supplement. They are lower level window cabins. They nickname them duck cabins since you are looking out and can sometimes see ducks paddling by.

Hurtigruten has a promo right now with no solo supplement on Galapagos expeditions.

Good morning, other river cruise lines also offer very low or even no single supplements for certain cabin categories.  Uniworld, AMAWaterways and Tauck are 3 choices of river cruise lines that offer these options.

I am not sure if this is a bargain, since the rates haven't come out yet but Cunard announced a five day special starting March 1st in honor of "National Plan a Solo Vacation Day."

Anyone seen any routes and prices for this today?

Thanks; particularly for the link.  I had searched their website first, and tried again just now, and could only find solo travellers by using the Search function.  On my computers (from Canada), it is not a sub title under 'The Experience'. There is a NE US/Canada cruise this Autumn which means I could travel close to home for a change.

This has probably been addressed before, but is there a way to search the Celebrity site for those solo cabins? I'd love to be able to see what they have for solo cabins in say April of '24.

I am wondering if you just put 'one' cruiser in the search engine that it might populate with solo traveller cabins?  I believe there are only around 16 of them on only some ships.

I remember there is a site that you can search single supplements across cruise lines.   I think it is posted somewhere in this thread but I can't find it.  Anyone know a site that does that?

Update: I think it was Cruiseplum

Irvington,

Unfortunately, it isn't easy with the Celebrity site but like others said Cruiseplum is best.  I would recommend using their standard search function, you will see more this way.  In the past I have "stumbled" across some solo deals on Celebrity but they never advertise them.  I recommend creating an account with CruisePlum and save some of your searches.  Hopefully, they will alert you to a drop.

Hi Emily,

On Celebrity’s site I believe you have to just go fishing.  Coincidentally I was just looking at a Silhouette sailing in April 2024.  I narrowed the search boxes to this ship and month and picked a date, book now, 1 stateroom, 1 person.
All four of the inside solo staterooms on this ship were available for the sailing I looked at, but I found the regular inside staterooms to be less money for more square footage.  Then, I emailed my TA and she said she might have group space that would price out even less.  Silhouette is a beautiful, spacious ship.  I have been on it twice.

I agree. Silhouette is a lovely ship.

A good tip from Kevin Martin (who is spending a year solo on cruise ships): don't just look at the single supplement. Check the daily cost per day.  This gives you a much better idea of value for money. Single supplements or no single supplements, it's cost per day that really counts.

Curious what is considered by folks on this forum as a "good" deal for solo travelers?

I know this is completely subjective and depends on the cruise line, route etc.  But as I am new to cruising, I am trying to gather data on what would make for a good deal.

Commenter above me mentioned cost per day.

How do you decide if it is a deal or not?

It's totally subjective... what I'm willing to pay is significantly less than what others are willing to pay, and more than others.

Pre-inflation, I was happy with $100/day (including taxes but not gratuities).  Sadly, I think those days are long gone now that people are traveling again and inflation has run amok.

I would consider a good deal to be any cruise with a zero per cent single supplement, i.e. I'm paying the same price as if I booked the cabin with another person with each paying the same price so long as the double occupancy rate was a good deal to begin with.

I just got off Celebrity Beyond, a brand new billion dollar ship, on a one week Eastern Caribbean cruise that I booked last summer when they had a zero per cent single supplement promo. Total cost per day was ~$150 for cabin, gratuities, port fees and taxes.

I did get a drinks package in addition and also spent a couple hundred dollars on specialty dining and dropped a few hundred in the casino in the casino but that doesn't factor into whether a think I was getting a "good" deal on the cruise.

I also look first at price per night. (As a technical writer, I notice that cruise lines can include embarkation and disembarkation in the number of days. I believe number of nights is more accurate and relevant. 😉 )

Usually, an attractive price per night reflects a low or zero solo supplement.

I, too, use USD 100 / night including taxes and port fees as a sort of guideline that I might consider breaking depending on the itinerary and season. However, in general, I naturally avoid itineraries / seasons that drive the price up.

For example, I'm booked on a 16-night repositioning cruise from Barcelona to Kiel, Germany, on Costa Firenze, May 3-19, 2023. Euro 999 in an outside cabin. Not just any outside cabin. This outside cabin, 11203.

During my research, I came across an eight-night cruise on MSC Poesia from Barcelona to Warnemunde with a base inside guarantee cabin, double occupancy price of USD 119. Solo price including taxes and port fees: USD 394 or USD 50 / night. Pretty awesome, if you ask me.
