Snowbaby369 Posted October 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Why do you have to give your cabin number when going to MDR for lunch or breakfast?

dolittle Posted October 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Just on Royal Caribbean did not ask for room number once .Had many lunches and breakfasts in M.D.R. I know N.C.L. does ask and I think scans you card. Don't know why.

bhageerah Posted October 14, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2017 All of my cruises have been with RCCL and we have never been asked for our room number, when we reserved dining for the MTD they asked for our card but we normally do the traditional dining. I highly doubt that you will be asked your room number, I honestly can't remember a time where I have been asked for my room number. Not sure what other cruise lines do but like I said we have always sailed with RCCL just so you know.
Hey Tina Posted October 14, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Pure speculation, but it could be so if you order a drink/anything that costs extra they don't have to bother with getting your card/room number in the middle of service and disrupting the flow. I think it's a good idea to do that, if they don't already.

Sea Hag Posted October 14, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 14, 2017 What cruiseline? I can't recall ever being asked. On the Ruby Princess a few weeks ago, we were always asked. Can't remember them doing this before, but no biggy.
Schoifmom Posted October 15, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2017 Carnival asks for it. It helps them identify people with dietary restrictions or other special requests, as well as the tracking of servers. Snowbaby369 Posted October 15, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted October 15, 2017 It's no big deal, and it doesn't bother us at all....I just wondered why. We've had this occur with Carnival and Hal.
stacymay30 Posted October 15, 2017 #17 Share Posted October 15, 2017 We are on NCL and for any meal we had at the MDR we were asked for a card to be seated. Then we were asked for a card if we ordered something extra too. I’m guessing it is inventory and tracking purposes. Kartgv Posted October 15, 2017 #18 Share Posted October 15, 2017 We've been asked for room number at dinner if we use Anytime/My Time Dining - some cruise lines won't admit people who aren't signed up for it. We've never, however, been asked at breakfast or lunch unless we were ordering a beverage that costs extra. Actually, if we're ordering a beverage, they want the 'folio' or account number rather than the room number.
Herfnerd Posted October 15, 2017 #19 Share Posted October 15, 2017 Was asked for our cabin number every time we went to breakfast and lunch on the HAL Eurodam last month Sent from my iPad using Forums

Krazy Kruizers Posted October 15, 2017 #21 Share Posted October 15, 2017 OP will be on the Koningsdam -- HAL. And yes HAL always asks for your cabin number for breakfast, lunch and open seating dinner. They keep tract of who eats where. It has nothing to do about tips. On HAL, many days the dining room is not open for lunch.

navybankerteacher Posted October 15, 2017 #23 Share Posted October 15, 2017 Probably for distribution of tips. It's hard to see what any logical connection with tips might be. I'd guess it might be data-gathering to profile dining preferences .
SRF Posted October 15, 2017 #24 Share Posted October 15, 2017 On Grandeur in August they asked cabin number when arriving for MTD without a reservation. Easy way for them to learn your names. Of course, when you do have an MTD reservation, they want your cabin number to show the reservation having been seated. And when ordering drinks that were extra, they took the Sea Pass card on the spot to charge, and brought it back with the drink.
