If true, the cruise industry and travel industry as a whole will collapse, well not too many survivors anyway. Armageddon. I don't want to even think about it. Sydney Harbour ferries, here we come.

Cruise constraints, like health checks, barring those over 70, social distancing, face masks, dining and entertainment issues will cause many to turn away.

I hope they don't blanket ban all people over 70, after all there are a lot of much younger unfit over weight people that cruise.

My father for instance only started  taking his 1st regular medication at 84,  so would have been well & truly fit for any kind of travel at 70.

I'm hoping I continue to take after him😄

Well the magic age 70 has been talked about re future cruising.  Luckily I retired at 55 and have been cruising for the past 17 years, like 24 cruises, all over the world.  Your Dad is a lucky man lasting till 84 re meds. Good on the young fellow. I have been on the meds for 20 odd years, like now, 10 pills a day, heart, BP, diabetes etc, etc. I feel crook talking about it. What time is happy hour? Might have to bring it forward.🍷

We retired a year ago & had big plans for overseas travel this year  & then my Tassie birthday cruise in February. Hope they get this all sorted before they tell me we're too old to cruise😉

Thank you, I hope it all works out for you and you can travel again. Alas my cruising wife has gone to the big cruise ship in the sky a couple of months ago, but we got one last cruise in last year, Noordam, Sydney to Hawaii.

 

That is why you see me on here often, getting my cruise fix and talking to like minded people for some sanity.

I agree Les, and yet there are many of the book of faces who insist they will be on the first ship to leave port, no matter what.

 

No insurance, no vaccine, no real onboard facility to cope with an outbreak requiring hospitalisation, ICU or ventilator for more than a few if that occurred, not to mention the likely differences in cruising experience. Oh, and perhaps becoming quarantined onboard or upon return & not being able to go to work. I'm sure there will be many employers who will not be keen for their employees to take leave for a cruise?? Guess the employee can say they are going to Bonnie Doon to see the poolroom 🙂 Or down to the Bay to visit Les for Happy Hour!

Thank you Mr Walker and the travel insurance issue is another major factor, will the elderly and/or those with certain medical issues be able to obtain travel insurance?  The insurance companies will be very apprehensive now in selling those policies, bearing in mind recent events.  I am surprised the Travel Insurance industry has not been hit by various governments for the hotel quarantine bills, it could be around the corner.

 

Yes some of those Book of Faces people are living in a time warp or big bubble re their cruise aspirations, like many think they will be cruising the Caribbean again next week !! It is written.

I have made a point of never being part of faceplant, I sometimes have trouble reading some posts on this site. The wholesale ignorance of some people is astounding. 

On the other treads with a lot of American participants there are some very "interesting" points of view.

There was an interesting tome on our local radio station a while back...Advice to the Graduating class of 2020. One of the many bits of wisdom was this; Don't read ignorant posts, they'll just make you angry. Truly wise words.

My other half and myself are both 77 and apart from me having a high cholesterol count 

(hereditary) we both are still fit going to gym 3 times a week walking 40 minutes a day  except for the days we aren’t playing bowls or pickle ball, I would be right p....ed off if  we were excluded.

Just wish someone would make the decisions that need to be made and stop treating paying passengers (some of many years)like half wits, although some are behaving like that and paying deposits on cruises that will not go

Grim if no cruising for years.

Reading about the spanish flu pandemic, it ended after think a couple of years?

Unclear how it ended opinions differ.

People will still want to travel and cruising, unpack once was attractive.

surely something will be resolved?

Cannot live without risk. 

Dreadful reading and hearing daily about the poor souls in so called lockdown in aged care. Still getting infected and dying.

Isolated some are not eating and cannot understand and feel abandoned.

Do hope we all hear better news soon.

The daily lectures from authorities about how to behave are tiresome.

Annoying when many of us are doing our best and we read of blunders that should not happen by others.

Mmm, interesting, you mean they should listen to us ? 😇Indeed they would learn something, a lot of cruising experience and cruising knowledge on here, across the boards, not just the Aust/NZ boards.

Six years sounds like a stretch though I could easily see 2 years.

 

Wife isn't impressed I retired this year and we had planned more cruises but for now it's stay at home, can't even take off to Port Stephens for a short break. Could be worse we could have the virus I guess.

Not so Princess. From an email I received today from Princess.

 

"We've repatriated nearly 14,000 Princess teammates, to date. Over 600 new crew members have also been brought on board to relieve those serving in minimum non-operational manning roles. We still have about 500 teammates on board, who are eligible for repatriation."

I'm so happy I travelled overseas most of my working life, as I feel the corona virus is going to effect future travel for some time, both here and overseas.  NT and northern Qld. are looking more inviting by the day.
