Maybe it's not a thing anymore?

There were a lot of Trunk-or-treats this past weekend.  Weather was a bit cool, around 40 but that's never deterred anybody before.  Two houses in my neighborhood had backyard parties with a lot of kids but I think that was after the trick-or-treating.

A trivia question for you H:The new Yankees Bench Coach was on his HS Hockey team and was a teammate of what NY Ranger great player ?

I actually just started Wegovy (Ozempic) a couple weeks ago -- it took over three months from getting the prescription written by my PCP to receiving my first dose because of availability issues.  My hospital (employer) doesn't cover it under their insurance, but our "specialties" pharmacist was able to use a federal program called 340B to get it for me at a reduced rate.  It "only" costs me $176 per four-week supply through the program.

I'm not having any side effects at all, so I'm planning on expediting my dose escalation schedule, going up a dose every three weeks instead of every four weeks (provided, of course, that I don't have any side effects with this method - if I do, I'll just go back to every four weeks).  By only using three of the injections out of every four-pack, that makes my per-week price go from ~$45 to ~$60 per week, but it's still worth the cost to me if it works like it should.

I know some European countries have put a restriction on new prescriptions for weight-loss purposes for the next several months, in order to make sure that there is enough medication available for diabetics.

Now that Mounjaro has also received its "official" FDA approval to be used for weight loss, I'm hoping that the price of Wegovy will drop a little -- supply and demand work for medications like they do for cruise ship fares!  Since Mounjaro is supposed to be even more effective than Wegovy, I foresee a lot of people "jumping ship" to Mounjaro now.

Even more exciting are some of the drugs that are in the pipeline for future approval (still finishing clinical trials), including a once-a-day pill -- much more convenient than having to refrigerate once-a-week injections, so that will be a big draw for some patients.  And the more competition there is among the different types of drugs, the lower prices will drop for the consumer!

Jack has been on Ozempic for quite awhile.  He has type 2 diabetes and his numbers have never been better, plus he lost approx. 30 pounds and looks and feels great.  First time ever. So far, no problems getting his prescription filled.

Our red oaks will hold on to a lot of their leaves until spring.  That way, we get to do leaf cleanup in the spring too.

At least they wait until warm weather.  I have a couple of Japanese Red Maples that usually drop the last of their leaves between Christmas & New Years. Tough to blow/rake leaves when they are frozen to the ground.

My older son is on Ozempic also for diabetes but has lost about fifteen pounds.

Sounds like losing weight when you don't have to, might be a problem on Ozempic.  Jack doesn't need to lose any more weight and I notice his loss of appetite makes him eat less than he should.

I know he played on the HS baseball team with Brian Leetch. Leetch played both baseball & hockey in high school. I guess he was a better hockey player than pitcher.

The weight loss aspect of Ozempic was a "happy accident" ... and you can bet the pharmaceutical company is doing the happy dance all the way to the bank now!

It actually isn't.  People seem to just lose weight until they get to the right spot, and then they just maintain.***

Diabetics who aren't overweight to begin with take it just fine.

*** This is assuming that there are no other causes for weight loss, unrelated to Ozempic.

I had to look up that drug, after reading about it here.   Yikes, almost 20k a year for it when I put it in the Medicare search for a drug plan.

It's £200-300 per month through Boots Chemist online over here. Think you have to do an online consultation first.

Through the NHS (free) you would have to get a referral through your GP to a specialist weight management service. I don't know anyone who's done it so I don't know much about it. I would think you would have to have a very high BMI to qualify under NHS.

I really strugle to lose even half pound when following a strict weight loss programme and I exercise quite a lot. So it's something I'm quite interested in.

Will be interested to hear @brilloheadhow you get on with it.

Typical diet for me is one weetabix with a little milk, berries and plain yoghurt for breakfast, home made veggie soup for lunch and a calorie counted homemade dinner in the evening.

Maybe a couple of glasses of wine a week and a small sweet treat in the evening with my herb tea

Okay, my breaks over!   Time to get up and start baking my oatmeal cookies.

That's what I feel about walking the dog.  I read Dani's thread over morning coffee whilst Molly is waiting for her walk

Meant to say half pound a week (not in total )

So with all this talk of weight loss, it is something that has come remarkably easy for me these past 13 weeks.

I may have mentioned that I had put on a few pounds this summer, trying to keep up with my grandson by eating as much as he did.  That, plus the fact that I was averaging about 4,000 steps a day less when he was here didn’t help.  So I decided to start eating healthy, which meant limiting red meat, having more chicken, fish and vegetables.  Only fruit for snacks.

Susan found some great low calorie recipes, that were good, and filling.  Susan was eating the same things, and she lost a few pounds, but she is already at or below an ideal weight.  She has always been thin.

I know some say that BMI is next to worthless, but it is still something that is measured by our doctors.  At the end of 13 weeks, I am down 31 pounds, and BMI dropped from 28 to 23.

The only drawback I can see, is if I were fighting, I am solidly in a lightweight class, and if I were to loose a few more pounds, it would make me a featherweight.  I am not sure I want to be considered either a lightweight or a featherweight.  😂  Maybe it is a good thing the holidays and cruises are here.  Maybe I will move up a class.

This happened to my friend she was never obese just slightly overweight but is diabetic. She has been taking this for some time, nothing but skin and bones and never feels like eating.  Her doctor finally took notice and has recently changed meds.

This is why there are different classes of meds to treat diabetes. Each patient has to be treated according to their individual situation. Ozempic is not the right choice for every diabetic. This is why physicians exist and people are not born with an owners manual like you get with your car.
