This is good to hear. We were very disappointed when we (and RCL) had to cancel all of our 2020 cruises, because had those cruises happened, our booked 2021 cruises would have made us Pinnacle.

Only on CC can a promo be viewed in such negative light.

While there will be some point maximizers, mostly Florida residents that will accelerate their ladder climbing, for the most part this should get most people closer to where they would have been if 2020 had not been wiped out.

Most guests take many years sailing one cruise every year or two to reach Diamond.  Few people take double digits of cruises every year.  I realize some do, I'm one of them that does do double digits of cruises yearly,  but that is far from the norm.  Is the typical cruiser going to spend money they wouldn't have and sail additional cruises in 2021 just to make the next level?  Probably not.

The point maximizers will still be the rapid ladder climbers which they already were.  A handful of local drive to port guests will be able to capitalize and attain a level up that would have occured in 2022 naturally but they are the exception, not the norm.

Some Pinnacle will use this to reach the next free Pinnacle cruise a little sooner.  They impact no one since they are already Pinnacle and getting a free cruise, like many casino players already get, has zero impact on other guests.

Some folks already above 600 will use this to accelerate their Pinnacle.  They are in the one percent or less category.  Negligible impact to existing Pinnacles and they would have been there by 2022 anyways.

Some folks who are nearing Diamond Plus will use this get there in 2021 instead of 2022.  That will get them an extra bottle of wine and better balcony discount but in the grand scheme of things has minimal impact on the system or other D+.  CL access was already rapidly disappearing, a handful of new D+ doesn't move the needle, that was happening before and it's going to continue happening.  Otherwise a handful of D+ a year early doesn't change anything.

Those nearing Diamond who lost 2020 sailings would have reached Diamond in 2021 if there had been no pandemic so all this does is bring them back to where they would have been.  Will massive Platinums and Emeralds book multiple cruises to level up?   A few will be in a position to do so which is the point - get people to book more cruises but it won't be the masses, most people still stick to their one cruise every year or two.

They didn't have to offer this, I think it is quite nice that they did even if it has negligible benefits for me.

Well .... it does mess with my Crystal Block strategy! 😇

I learned a long time ago that if I really want a particular block it's way cheaper to buy it on eBay compared to managing and manipulating several multi-thousand dollar cruises just for blocks.  🙂

Just called Crown & Anchor CS.  The Customer Service representative I spoke with said that they are awaiting management clarification but they ANTICIPATE that this will be expanded to include existing reservations and that points will be automatically applied.

Do we need to do anything to get the double points or will they be automatically applied?

i was told just as long as ur crown and anchor is attached to the booking it will happen automatically..i would save that pic just in case the points are not applied correctly in the future after ur cruise

Our TA just got off phone with RCI.
our Augu15 Allure. CLS. Sams price rebooked getting 3 points a night.   No change fees.

Now on our October 9 since we took a balcony discount we will lose that.  But price of CLS same. So for around $200 we took the loss and take the 3 points a night. No change fees. Well just loss of balcony discount.

We will turn diamond plus on August cruise. So benefits will start on October cruise.

It's applicable to existing bookings. You didn't have to rebook

Report on another site that double points only applies if no CAS discount was used on existing bookings.  Removing CAS discount to be double point eligible will likely cause a price increase.

Stay tuned, it's a developing story.  Need to see actual T&Cs published.

What exactly does "double Points" mean? If one were to book a regular balcony I presume "double" means two points per night, but if one were to book a suite, does "double" mean four points per night, or three as some posts seem to indicate?

But are you willing to pay the rate to earn the points?

No, I had 2 cruises cancelled. I kept my money in with these people and in would like to be recognized or rewarded for that like many, many other people. That's all I'm saying. Just cause someone books now they are getting double points. I don't think it's right. That's just be, maybe I'm wrong.

I think it’s likely to be one extra point period. It’s double for a cabin that only normally provides one point.
