New Covid-19 Cruise Ship Rules

Recommended Posts

I won't cruise again until it's back to normal more or less.

I cruise to relax & get away from a busy life - I don't want to have to remember a dozen rules about this or that - my cruise style is very unstructured, prefer my time dining & never know most days what time or where I want to eat & wearing a mask is a definite deal breaker for me.  😷😬

I’m curious ....are you permitted to post your videos here?  Please be careful because it was my understanding that Cruise Critic prohibits anyone from making money off of posts on these boards.  You videos are obviously monetized so I really hope that you don’t get kicked off Cruise Critic for profiting from posts.  If so, we would miss your posts☺️

Why do you even bring this up? 🙄

I get that they're trying to minimize risk of infection, but that will need to come with relaxed refund policies as they relate to someone testing positive

Why would they need to relax refund policy. Should the previously infected person not present evidence of infection and recovery from infection for instance positive and negative tests and have it be understand that they are not contagious anymore since they are 3 months clear of the virus. If not they might have to refund a hell of a lot of money.

Ace, read what I wrote above. You can test positive long after you have recovered. You are not contagious after recovery.

Then Royal should understand that and not refuse boarding and therefore avoid the refund situation which will ensue.

I believe the best way for RC to return to sailing is for now to only allow those passengers who have been vaccinated to sail. That along with a vaccinated crew will allow for the ship to resume normal operations without all these rules and will allow for a return to the cruise experience we all know and love.

I have to agree - it is the best way forward for them in the short term and would give confidence to a lot of potential guests to sail , when they otherwise might still be hesitant.

To be sure it will put some people who refuse to be vaccinated off , but that really is their choice - the same people may find that a lot of things such as getting on a plane are closed off to them also.

The very worst thing that could happen to the cruise lines is to restart only to have covid outbreaks onboard.

And it will put off families with young children that won't be able to cruise since there's no vaccine for them yet

Just watched the video.  I actually dont mind reservations for the gym.  I used to hate trying to find a treadmill or elliptical and people not wiping down equipment.  I have friends in St. Louis area telling me that one of the gyms requires this and its nice because it isn't crowded.  I dont care about the covid testing pre cruise since I have already done this pre travel and it is not the end of the world.  I didn't see the current travel rule where you have to have a negative covid test 72 hours before coming back into US or proof of recovery from virus within 90 days.  And I know Canada has similar restrictions.  Also, I didn't see anything about vaccines.  I dont like hottubs or pool on ship so really dont care about those restrictions.  Looking at everything, overall for me it limits my time to enjoy the ship freely and spontaneously and I would probably spend my time in my room maskless or in a shaded area outside isolated with mask on.  This is not that big of an issue if you have a suite or balcony because you could just hang there.  I also didn't see anything about excursions.  I think all of these restrictions for thousands of dollars will make a lot of people rethink cruises and go to land vacations.  I'm going to Cozumel next month to stay at an AI and plan to visit Chankanaab and Punta Sur on our own with a rental car and our masks.  Yes, maybe we need these restrictions for 3000 people inside a ship.  But maybe it isnt worth paying thousands of dollars when there are other places and ways to vacation.  I love cruises and really miss it and I am hoping that this will only be temporary.

Yes that is quite true.

Its possible they could put an age limit on the vaccine rule - maybe anyone under 12 is exempt ? Just a thought.

I suppose they will have to weigh up the pros and cons of whatever rules they decide to impose.

The hope is that the restrictions will only be temporary until a reasonable level of immunity is built up in the population.

We have a few cruises scheduled during 2021.  First May, not really sure if that will be a go, then August.  Finally actually 2022 in January and March.  I hope that we are all well and can safely sail.  Yes, we are willing to take precautions as our lives are more important to us then restrictions.  Perhaps we might consider alternative land based  vacations in May (if safe) and August.  Our just have staycations.

Many  people are currently over 65.  We want to be healthy and safe  for the future!   Who knows how long the future will be?

Yes they could do that.  But if I have to get vaccinated I would like all others to be as well, just MHO.

At least it would allow for sailings to begin again.  Vaccinations for young children are a long way off and having experienced sailings where children of all ages are not supervised by their parents, I think it unwise to trust that those children will do what is expected of them. Some children will. All? Not likely, and it only takes one.

I think the best way to get back to a normal cruise experience is to require 100% vaccination rate on the ship. Once you start making exceptions then other precautions will also have to be used like masking and distancing. Unfortunately, those who can't, or won't, be vacinated would just have to wait to go on a cruise.

I don't have a problem with any rules. I go to very few places, but those I frequent  require a temperature check, masks, reservations,  limited dining seating,  phone enabled menus,  etc.

Regarding the ships, I LOVE that dinner seating will be distanced.  Theater reservations, what is the issue?  Oasis  class currently requires that.  Dining reservation on board?  We always had that.  Gym reservations? I usually know the approximate time I  want to visit the gym.  Vaccinations? Already had the first shot.   Temperature checks, we planned for that when entering Cuba years ago.    Plus - there will likely be even more restrictions than currently on Quantum.  If I am not mistaken, isn't   Quantum a cruise to nowhere?  If so, then  excursions/getting of the ship  will create more restrictions.

Will the cruising experience be different?  YES, OF COURSE, but so is nearly everything today.

Those who want to  cruise will do so.  Those who don't,  will  find other  alternate vacation plans.   There are plenty of  options out there.   Of course, many of those  will likely have some restrictions also.

M

No, this is too strict and not fair.  This is an absolute show stopper for me.   We need to find a way to sail without this restriction.

I can understand how you would be quite uncomfortable with limited pool time.😇

These rules wouldn't bother me at all.

I agree with 100% vaccination.  I want to cruise w/o restrictions, and w/o the weird Covid adaptations I've experienced at an AI and in Las Vegas.

Also, we have an Alaska cruise booked this summer, and I can't see Canada letting ships stop there w/o the vaccination requirement.

Waiting impatiently for my shot.

What about those crowded ship elevators... the worst spot on ship for lack of spacing.

Limit number of riders?  Have a staff elevator attendant?

I have no problems with these rules.  Better than staying home.

The Caesar's Casino properties in Atlantic City, only allow 4 people in the elevators. There are 4 circles in each corner of the elevator to identify social distancing.  If these are the rules, don't know what impact on cruising passengers.

Read an article and can't remember the venues, that in addition to the limit of 4 riders and the social distancing that they require that they look away from each other--in essence looking at the corner of the elevator. 🤭 I wonder if they program the elevators to announce the floors.

You'll never get 100% vaccination rate for  multitude of legit reasons.

Agreed.  I guess those folks won’t be on a cruise ship anytime soon if the noble goal is to have a 100% vaccinated crew and pax ship leave the dock.
