Liberty is on the way into Galveston by 530 today for a medical emergency and casino closing at 5 pm. They wouldnt disembark until the morning.

We never know what happened for sure.

We were on the second leg of a B2B for that cruise. I do recall hearing "Alpha Alpha Alpha" and then something about a passenger on the pool deck. On Saturday late morning we spoke with a Guest Services crew member who confirmed that yes, we were hurrying back to Galveston so that person could get medical care. Hubby did see an elderly gent in a wheelchair accompanied by several crew members and medical staff a few hours after the Alpha announcement; we  think that was probably the person but have no more information otherwise.

It was actually kind of nice arriving in Galveston during daylight hours instead of getting there in the wee hours of the morning.

It's a shame security didn't make him release the saved chairs.

I had the same kind of incident in the theater on a Carnival ship once. Man and wife were trying to save a whole row of seats up front. I walked past him with my wife and we sat down in the middle. He had a conniption fit and said he was calling security. I asked him to please do so and then he sat down and huffed the whole show because his entire extended family couldn't sit in the same row.

They were great seats! 😁

Well the husband and wife upset the gentleman🤓plan.

Does it look they were trying to "break into it"? Or did they just damage it?  I think a lot of people forget there are cameras everywhere onboard.

Someone tampered with the zipper and managed to shove an open beer bottle inside one bag. The retractable handle on the other bag was completely broken off.

OMG that is so bizarre.  Did they find out the reason?

If they did, that was not communicated to us. We were asked if we wore red caps. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was so bizarre.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. What a terrible way to start a vacation. The behavior of people sometimes really shocks me. I’m even more shocked that people don’t realize they are on camera. What a terrible thing to do. I wish I could say I hope they learned their lesson. But if you’re going to sink to that level maybe it’s to late to learn anything. Hope you still had a wonderful vacation & are thinking about investing in good locks for your luggage.

We had good locks on the luggage. The zipper was tampered with and forced off the track. Royal took care of things and we had a great trip.

That's why we purchased zipper-less luggage.  You need a TSA key to unlock and get into our luggage.  I've heard so many stories of zippers being manipulated and items confiscated from baggage.

I have never heard of it on a cruise.  We've been on 30 cruises and never an issue.  We do use TSA locks but more so that the zippers don't get accidentally caught on something and pulled open.  Also, outside of clothing, the only thing in our luggage is toiletries and a hair dryer.

We were also on that cruise.  The Alpha call came during the ice show performance -- skaters continued on without missing a beat during the announcement...

The next morning I knew something was up -- I'd pulled up our routing on MarineTraffic.com and the 1730 expected arrival into Galveston was already posted there long before the Captain's announcement.

Our cabin overlooked the starboard aft gangway.  Liberty tied off around 1840, but the ambulance didn't pull onto the dock until 1902, which I found odd.  We expected one to be waiting when we pulled alongside the pier.

Agree it was nice arriving in the daytime, but really wish there could have been some accommodation for those who could have disembarked with self-carry bags.  We had to drive back to Chicago, and and it would have been great to get a couple hours head start.

Sailed to Hawaii in 2007 on a 14 night voyage from San Pedro., CA. I kept seeing a loud voluptuous flashily dressed & jewelry laden blonde all over the ship that seemed familiar but I could not figure out why. She was traveling with a couple of boy teens that were with her at times. We docked at several of the islands but tendered in Maui. I took the first tender over to shore at around 7:30 AM with plans to look around until the rest of my travel party arrived. First tender headed back to the ship... and then another did not come ashore for two hours. Seems the tender that should have arrived shortly had been held up at the ship because the blonde and her family had been kicked off and were taking their sweet time getting their nine suitcases down to the tender to load. Apparently, the teens had pushed the limit after being in trouble several times during the week... they had been warned for throwing cigarettes down to the pool sun area from the deck above, harassing young females, and heckling other passengers. The last straw came when they trashed their stateroom and then etched profanity into the glass of one of the centrum elevators late the evening before their departure. Passengers who were held up by the hoodlums were furious, especially those who had scheduled day long excursions,  as the tenders did not resume until after 10AM an the ship's scheduled departure from the island was only pushed back a half hour that afternoon until 4:30. It was not until I had been home a month and just happened to be flipping channels on the TV did I realize that the family members were actually the "stars" of a TV reality show. Unfortunately, their "celebrity status" did not save them during that Celebrity voyage, lol.

sounds like the Gottis

Im still trying to find the common denominator in this thread with freshly squeezed OJ, bananas, and rolex watches.

I use to work at a major international Airport. Once I was in the baggage hall chatting to our baggage guys and they showed me how they could into a zipped bag in less than a second

(It was an old bag, not a passengers!)

We got stung in Milan airport several years ago where our luggage was ransacked.  Zippers are easily manipulated, that's why we got non-zip luggage.  You need a TSA key to open it.

and all these years on CruiseCritic, Royal cruisers were the first to loudly and proudly announce that THEY were the classy cruise line and Carnival was the trash. 😲

They have things like this on Carnival.  They call them Saturday night.

This happened to us on a Princess Cruise.  DH and my cousin's husband were waiting "saving" seats for us as we stopped in the bathroom prior to the show.  A man with his wife wanted those 2 seats.  Never mind that we were right behind him and the next row was completely empty!   He became very confrontational with DH who was reasonably pointing out that we were right there and pointed out all the empty seats available.  This guy would not quit demanding those seats.  Finally, DH put on his "cop" face and told him he'd better move on or else.   A few days later, we saw them again as we entered the theater and I heard him say to his wife, "we'd better stay away from that guy."  I hate to say that we had a good laugh over it, but we did.

Was your clothing wet with beer or was it an empty?

I've never had a problem with a husband/wife saving a seat for his or her spouse. Two people attempting to save an entire row was a bit over the top, IMO.

Same here.  Even saving a total of 4 seats for another couple or kids.  But beyond that, NOPE.

Those of you relying on TSA locks must not have read about the fact that anyone can get a TSA key.  Google them, and they are for sale.  Or anyone with a 3D printer can make a set.

The head of TSA held up a set of TSA keys at a press conference.  From the photos, the keys have been duplicated.

Can anyone buy a TSA key?

Now, thanks to that picture and a French lock-picking enthusiast, anyone with a 3D printer can make their own master keys to unlock any TSA-recognized locks. ... The locks are primarily to help the TSA inspect suspicious luggage before it makes it onto an airplane, and have long-since been warned of their vulnerabilities.

Does anyone really believe that a TSA lock makes your bag "secure"? TSA locks, actually pretty much any standard luggage lock even pre-TSA, built in or otherwise is far from secure. The only thing they are is a deterrent to the casual snoop. Given the choice of a locked or unlocked bag, they will choose the unlocked one. But if someone was determined to get into your luggage specifically, no TSA lock is going to keep them out any standard types of luggage. Now, if you've got some sort of high security luggage or something that might make a difference.

There's a world of difference between one or two people saving a whole row of seats (we've seen that often...and often the seats end up empty during the show, or the group arrives twenty minutes in and disrupts everyone as they take their seats....we've become those people who ignore the lone person with a couple jackets staking out the whole row and just sit there anyway if we want to 🤨) and a partner saving a seat for their companion who has gone to the restroom.   It's not even remotely the same thing.
