We should have been on the 23rd of February out of Singapore but it was cancelled yesterday. As much as we are disappointed that we're not going on the cruise we booked almost a year ago it wasn't the trip we had in our minds. I was worried that we would on a quarantined ship for weeks. I am so desperately sorry for the people on the Diamond, I can't see any compensation making the passengers feel any better. Although Princess dragged their feet giving us only eleven days notice of the cancellation what has happened on the Diamond couldn't have been forseen. I agree that people are too quick to shout SUE.

You are very fortunate to have gotten 11 days  . I am desperately hoping for 4 days or more .

i am just wondering... since passengers were quarantined for 14 days after their exposure to the first case, will passengers who were cabinmates to recently diagnosed cases, be quarantined for 14 days after their most recent exposure? it would make sense to me since they may be harboring virus for the next 14 days. i'd hate to be on a flight with the spouse of someone who was diagnosed a couple of days ago.

The Japanese spokesman said that the period of quarantine for passengers (and presumably crew) whose had close contact with a person diagnosed as having the virus, would be extended.

Unless of course you’re a passenger on the Diamond Princess right now.  It’s actually really bad for them right now.  That is real; not “fake news”. All from 1 passenger who had the virus on their cruise.  It can happen anywhere on any ship as we are a world of “travelers” and come in contact with people from all over the world every day.  I don’t think it’s an over reaction at all.  This is a very fluid situation.  There are still a lot of unknowns in regards to transmission and actual infections.

Hi, are you on the Diamond Princess right now? I am and have been since 06 Jan. 2020.

It is not "really bad" for us now, maybe for people who love to complain and are looking for their 15 minutes of fame it is a Godsend. I am very impressed with the Captain and the incredible crew, we are being looked after exceptionally well. I am not getting into a pissing contest with anyone, but if anyone has any intelligent questions about the situation I will give answers where I can. Just be advised I will only provide information on things I have seen or experienced myself, no heresay, conjecture or supposition will be entered into.

Good for you! It seems like you have a great attitude. What cabin type are you in?

Thank you so much for your post.

What type of cabin are you in?

Do you have the impression that your food is prepared off site and brought onto the ship?

Have you been able to order any alcohol?

Have any cleaning equipment and products been delivered to your cabin so you can do some basic housekeeping?

All the best for the future.

Good to hear a positive report from someone on board!  Lots of cruise loving folks are thinking about you and are sending good wishes that you and others stay healthy.  Hang in there.

Thank you. I am in a mini suite, and I understand that others are not so lucky, being in inside or oceanview. The people in these cabins are being allowed to go out on deck on a regular bases and this is helping any cabin fever they maybe experiencing.

I had given up on this thread. Thank you for posting. I hope you are doing okay in a difficult time.

I hope you can help allay some of the ridiculous conjecture etc. that has basically taken this thread over.

You seem to be logical and intelligent. I commend you for your attitude and ability to make the best of any situation. I hope I could keep the same sense about me if I found myself in a situation close to yours. You and everyone on the diamond are in my thoughts and prayers.

How are you meals chosen? Are you given a short menu to pick from or is it set each meal?

Are you being given any indication of how those who are diagnosed each day were most likely infected? By this I mean do the doctors or other specialist feel they were exposed prior to your being quarantined? If so I assume that would mean the number of new cases onboard would abruptly end on or about day 14.

From the outside it appears Princess staff is doing everything they could possibly do to make the best of the situation but I’m not there so I can’t say definitively. Would you say that’s the case?

take care,

Chris

Your welcome.

I am in a mini suite.

Most of the food is from the kitchen on board, however we have been receiving containers of noodles and other items e.g. Chocolate bars, salted nibbles etc. from Japan.

I haven't attempted to as I feel the crew have enough to do without ferrying alcohol around the ship.

We have been provided with disinfectant wipes, but nothing else. Everyone off the ship need to realise even such things as supplying us with cleaning products have to be authorised by the Japanese Government. The Captain and indeed Princess Cruise Line have very little say in how the quarantine is being conducted.

I would also like to add it would be better for all concerned if they accepted they are no longer on a luxury cruise, they need to forget about fresh towels everyday and a chocolate on their pillow. They are now in quarantine and need to do as they are told and do what they can to make the most of it.

Thank you.

What are your thoughts on the option to finish the quarantine period onshore if you test negative? Would you take it or stay onboard?

Whatever happens I wish you all the best and hope you get through this with good health and have a pleasant trip home.

Hi Chris

We are given a menu each day. Breakfast is whatever they send us, usually a hot meal with juice, fruit, yogurt and pastries. Tea or coffee.

Lunch we have a choice of three different meals, we get an appetiser and a dessert.

Dinner again a choice of three different meals and appetiser and dessert.

The information we have been given is most of the primary cases were most likely infected by patient zero or his close contacts from his date of embarkation until he disembarked the ship. Secondary cases were most likely infected by the primary cases prior to the ship going into isolation.

I have nothing but praise for the crew on the Diamond Princess I feel I have just gained 1000+ new family members. Also great admiration for the shoreside team who have been working 24/7 since this saga began.

Thank you for your interest.

Thank you for taking the time to give us reports from the ship.  It's great to have live reports coming in.  It's also wonderful to hear that you feel that you are being so well taken care of.

Really hoping this is over soon for all of the passengers and crew and that you remain healthy.

Info from an Australian doctor on the ship. Her dad tested positive (initially negative) and has been moved to a hospital. Difficult communications. Australian Embassy trying to help. Bless her heart.

We have had contact via email from the Australian Embassy in Tokyo daily sometimes twice a day. Personally I could think of nothing worse than going to Christmas Island and do you really think the Australian Government should be wasting your tax dollars on an unnecessary flight back to Australia, considering there are only 5 days left in the quarantine period. We are receiving everything we would get back in Australia actually we are being looked after in my opinion better than we could be on Christmas Island or anywhere else in Australia. Unlike many people today I don't expect my Government to come running to my rescue I am a grown up capable of looking after my own welfare and make my own decisions.

Yes that is true, we don't see the necessity to go out as we have enough space where we are and feel we don't wish to expose ourselves to the rampant negativity of the other passengers. Not all of course but enough of them to make having to hear them in close quarters very annoying.

Thanks for posting!  As someone in a mini-suite, have you had any contact with anyone in an inside cabin? Either by phone or FB group?  Also, do you know anyone else on board?  Is everyone receiving the same level of attention?  I ask because some are reporting whisky and wine deliveries and some seem to be begging for a second cup of coffee.   Thank you and hope you all get released from quarantine sooner rather than later.  🙂

Thank you for your questions.

No I personally don't know anyone in an inside cabin on this trip but I have been in them on other cruises. I am not on Facebook. I have friends on board and have met other people they are all in mini suites or balcony staterooms.

Everyone is being treated the same, however saying this the old adage applies "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". I feel the crew are working hard enough under extreme circumstances and don't need people demanding things they "want" rather than what they "need". I have no problem getting two cups of coffee in the morning and we have a jug in our stateroom to heat up water. I find it mind boggling that supposed adults can't work out problems for themselves but have to rely on others to cater to their every need.

As said before people need need to come to terms with the fact we are no longer on a cruise we are in quarantine.

Thank you for your interest.

All the very best with continuing the Quarantine Kip6 and hope you stay safe from this. As you said, this is (large scale unscheduled and unprepared for) Quarantine that just happens to be on a cruise ship. The attitudes of some people posting here seem to keep forgetting that and the serious situation that is happening.

as an aside,  My wife just got Pneumonia which progressed form a flu she got as we left our Southern Caribbean cruise of all places 10 days ago. Not blaming the cruise ship one bit. These things happen but made me wonder as ive been following this thread...
