+ 5 😢  , Mark @h20skibum

At least you have a good book with you. I've finished it in one day, even though I was left with some doubts at the ending. Love Elvis & Joe 😉

I was glad it showed up.  I finished the new Michael Connelly book with Harry and Renée.  It was the best of the ones I read lately.

I read the new Nelson Demille book, The Maze, and thought it moved slowly.  I also read the new Lee Child book, No Plan B.  I thought it jumped back and forth too much before they brought the story line together. Maybe it is his collaboration with Andrew Child, but I liked Lee’s earlier works better.

I also finished the new CJ Box book, Treasure State.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate.

So our reduced size, Thanksgiving meal, with just our daughter and her family, just got a little smaller.  We were out for a walk yesterday when I started feeling off.  Trouble breathing, fever and chills.  Took a Covid test last night, and it was negative.  Fever and chills are gone this morning, but still don’t feel like myself.

I hate that Susan has to do all the prep work now, since I have decided to isolate today.  I don’t want to take a chance of passing something to my daughter or the grandkids.

Looks like I will be starting that new Robert Crais book today, instead of enjoying time with the family.

No doubt you will have many future happy family gatherings.  Just take good care of yourself now. Something soothing about relaxing and reading a good book.

Agree, it was excellent, though it left me fearing that will be Harry's last one... How many times he can be "reinstituted"? 😉

I've also read one of my fav series, #29 of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum. "Comfort food", a good laugh all around.

Encouraged, I've ordered the first in her new series, "Rogue agent".... waste of time and money.

Agree also about the earliest Lee Child's books. Not in a hurry to try the new ones.

So I decided to go back to some of my paper books, and right now I'm very much enjoying Elmore Leonard's "Rum Punch".

I'll have a look at CJ Box, always on the look out for new good authors.

I had that same feeling about Harry, especially with the way it was left in the end.

@Ozark_Kid John - We used Native Choice to visit the Chacchoben ruins in 2018.  I wrote about it and posted some pictures in a review.  Click here and scroll down to post #61.  I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the link and review.  That helps a lot. Looks like a nice excursion.  BTW, I was thinking of you this weekend.   The Razorbacks played in the Maui Invitational this weekend.  They occasionally flashed up nice Hawaii pics.

@brillohead Maya Chan looks like a great choice too.  That is where we were probably going  before the Ruins were brought up.  It will probably be a few days until the final decision is made.

Thanks to all for the help.  Just another reason to be thankful for all who post here!

Our Thanksgiving will see us doing another round of packing boxes for our move.  Drive to Florida tomorrow and of course rain is forecast all day so I wanted both cars packed today.  As well as a fully loaded pickup truck with stuff to take to the dump.  I’m thankful we are downsizing/decluttering!  Our Thanksgiving dinner will be that Pilgrim favorite, hamburgers…trying to clear out the fridge.

I’m planning to eat vicariously through food porn from you all so bring it on!

I hope you have a safe trip to Florida.   Your post reminded me of when we moved here.  We had moved a few times before.  Seemed like each move stuff in the attic grew.  Our last move we decided to thin the attic.  A bunch of folks from church helped us make the move.  Almost every time we pulled something from the attic we asked, anyone want this?  😆 It helped at the time but after 23 years of being here the attic is full again.

Hope y'all enjoy those delicious Thanksgiving hamburgers!

Dani, I've read all Stephanie Plum books and #29 is listed as "Rogue Agent".  It's on hold at the library.

I once had to put one of her books down since I was reading on my break at work and people were looking at me strangely since I kept laughing out loud at Lula's antics.

Janet Evanovitch appeared at a local Barnes and Noble a few years ago.  In order to meet her, we had to sign up for a specific time to meet her.  My time was 2am.  Yes, you read that correct.  2am.  Needless to say I never got to meet her. 😒

When our daughters married we let them know that we didn't have to get together on the exact holiday day.  If it is big to in-laws, we can meet on another day.  One less thing for them to stress about. This is why we had our family Thanksgiving last weekend. Our 2 oldest are celebrating Thanksgiving with the in-laws.  Our youngest asked if we could do a 2nd Thanksgiving with them today so Finnley can have here 1st celebration of Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving.   So we are having our favorite brisket and homemade rolls!

I hope all here have a great day if you celebrate Thanksgiving or not.

Happy Thanksgiving!   🦃

Sorry, I had a senior moment, or two...

#29 is "Going rogue".

The new series is "The Recovery Agent".

I've made a real " 'balagan'/mish mash" ☹️

PS -- Barnes and Noble are working nights? 2am seems a bit "excessive"....😧

Did they make any renovations or changes while they were closed?

Not really that I could tell.  Casita #6 looked the same to me!  LOL  And the food is just as delicious as ever, and the massages are absolute heaven as well.

The doggo situation has changed.  They lost Maggie this year, so Lola moved up to the middle-sized dog position. Rodas (black Lab) is still very firmly in the Grumpy Old Man position.  He still barks to announce every arriving taxi, but rarely gets up to greet newcomers anymore.  Still as sweet as ever, just old with creaky joints like a lot of us.  Newest rescue is Happy, a teeny tiny itty bitty Chihuahua who is just the absolute cutest thing ever!   And they'll soon be adding another rescue (David's not happy about it, but Julieta is determined, and we all know that Happy Wife = Happy Life!), a neglected one-eyed dog.

My tablemates this week did a ruins excursion -- I'll ask them who they used, too.  They were happy with their tour as well.

It just depends on the kind of day you want to have -- active or relaxing.  Two weeks ago, my tablemates (two 30yo guys) had booked a ruins excursion through Royal, and when they heard about Maya Chan, they said that sounded a lot more of what they were looking for (a relaxing day).

I emailed Mark, because I knew they were "sold out" for that day but I also knew I was the only one in my casita and I was fine with sharing it with the boys.  "Sure, no problem!"  The guys cancelled their Royal excursion and spent the day at Maya Chan, and they said it was their favorite day of the whole entire cruise (and they did sloths and ziplining in Honduras, too).

The guys were so funny, too.... they said at the beginning of the cruise that they just wanted "relaxation" and then they booked active excursions every single port!  Ah, youth -- they don't know what they don't know! LOL

I don’t even look at the ports when booking a celebrity suite cruise , I wouldn’t upset me if we never left the ship . My wife likes shopping in St Thomas and depending on our mood we might do orient beach in St Maarten.

That's great that you're so understanding of in-laws, etc.

Back when I was still in the family, my brother (who lived two hours away) and I had worked out an agreement where we would always celebrate "big family Christmas" at my parents' house on the weekend between Christmas and New Year's.

My brother had a bunch of kids, and his family was very active in their church, and his in-laws lived in the same city they did, and my parents were active in their church and involved with various philanthropic organizations, and I had my son and lived in another town, and we figured that by settling a fixed day for our family, we wouldn't have to worry about conflicts with church events, school events, work events, etc.

Plus my brother and I wanted our kids to have the same experiences we did growing up -- waking up in their own bed, walking down their own hallway, and seeing the presents under their own tree.  Prior to this, my brother and his wife had to pack up all their kids and move into my parents' house for Christmas Eve and have Christmas morning at my parents' house, with me and my now-ex driving over early that morning to join them.

We also agreed that we would both welcome the parents into our homes if they wanted to see their grandkids for the "Christmas morning magic" anytime they wanted -- that this wasn't about denying them access to the grandkids, but rather about making sure we would always be able to get together as a whole family to celebrate together without having any conflicts with other social, church, work, or school events.  It would always be on our calendar and we wouldn't have to play "juggle the schedules" trying to find a time every year that worked for everyone.

My mother thought that we were insane when we proposed the idea.  When we said that we wanted our kids to have the same Christmas morning experiences/memories that we did, she agreed, because in her narcissistic mind that meant that they woke up in HER house and walked down HER hallway to see the presents under HER tree!  She completely lacks the ability to see something from another person's perspective, and she acted like she was the queen of England.  Her exact words were, "I *am* the matriarch of this family and you *will* do what I say!"

It hurt like heck at the time, but getting disowned by that witch 20 years ago was the best thing that ever happened to me outside the birth of my son!

So kudos to you, John, for realizing that the TOGETHERNESS is what makes it an important day, not the date on the calendar!
