Doctor just told us that if we are quarantined in Canada, it could be 10 days. I like Canada, but not that much.

I hope you test negative soon so you can make the journey home.  You mentioned Princess sets up a $100 per day food allowance.  do you pay and then file a claim with Princess?  Is this part of the covid trip insurance?

For people not flying international, wonder how many will be honest when they start showing symptoms.I thank all the honest people that have reported symptoms and tested positive. Makes it a little more safe for those of us sailing with them.

Our next cruise is July and we are flying to San Francisco. Our cruise is RT there. Should we get sick and are in  isolation, plan to  rent a car and drive home  from SF(if we are feeling well enough to do it)and are still positive.

If I self tested and tested positive, I would no tell Princess, especially if it was towards the end of the cruise.

And you would self isolate and take responsibility for those who may come in contact and become infected by you, right?

Five days in on

our Alaska cruise I felt like I had a cold. It kept getting worse so I decided to test - BINGO, positive. Reported to medical, they came and tested and we were both positive. An hour later we were out of our 600sf suite and into a 200sf balcony. DW not happy.

Well, I've heard of having to move to an interior on some ships...

So sorry you are going through this. We were on the first Royal cruise to Alaska and tested positive a couple days after we got home. We all ended up with mild cases but were so incredibly thankful we made it home first. I hope you recover quickly and can get home as soon as possible.

The consierege told us that since we are American citizens they will probably take us to a hotel in Seattle. I hope so.Called EZ air, they said that they would keep our file active and rebook us when the quarantine ends.

Only 1100 people on the ship and it has been one of least favorite cruises. Everything is just a little off, the crew seems lost.

Our original plan was to test via eMed today from Victoria but guess what, no internet. Oh well doesn't matter now.

I'll report on what happens tomorrow.

I'm not trying to be smug or self-rightous, at all...just genuinly asking for your opinon.

But, my current thinking is that the downside risk of cruising right now it too high.

Something can go wrong with a major impact on one's cruise experience.

Now that this has happened, what's your advice for others?

Thanks.

I cruised May 4-8/22.

We both survived the experience and stayed healthy.

Anyone can come in to contact with Covid anytime, anywhere.

We modified our plans ,several times, and took precautions to keep ourselves safe.

If you do not feel comfortable cruising then delay your trip.

We chose not to take the longer flight to the UK and do a 12 day cruise, once the UK lifted Covid restrictions, testing, masks etc.

We then chose to try 2 shorter cruises.

Less passengers, upgraded to a suite & will do another one like this before our FCC expire.

I have to say I appreciate the passengers who are following safety protocols & those who don’t hide the fact that they are sick and should be tested on-board.

Not sure where 1100 ppl on board came from... cd  said 1900.  Apples? Oranges?  Either way  the numbers of positive cases are still rising including staff.  I'm to get off at 930 where I will be escorted to terminal.  I truly don't no how OP is having such a difficult time..  all my answers are being answered promptly.   I'm fortunate that I live here and can drive home to finish my isolation.  Sorry for those international pax but please remember that you knew about Canadian rules of being in isolation for 10 days if positive (since the border reopened).  If you didn't, then you should have...  again still best trip ever as well as best treatment re covid.  Wouldn't want to get it anywhere else... lol20220516_150926.thumb.jpg.18077366f59b3afa582854529337278d.jpg

That’s wonderful that you had such great treatment. One thing I learned years ago is that just because I am having an amazing, awesome experience doesn’t mean that everyone else is having the same treatment or experience that I am.  Sad but true.  Get well soon!

same can be stated about posters and "their" s$%t$y experiences - which seems to be most of the posts on CC - not everyone has the same experience ... and even if they do ... it depends on how it is perceived by those that do .... think about it

That’s true and I did complain before about my room service order but that could have broken teeth.  😂

Wow I can’t believe you would do that. You’re taking a chance of getting someone else sick.
This is another good reason I won’t and have not booked a cruise. I’m lucky I have my own boat that I can go on with my family.

That poster says this all the time and I hope I am never on a cruise with them.  I tested positive the day after our Discovery Princess B2B and I would never take a chance of getting someone else sick. When I found out that I was positive I sent an email to Princess telling them the names of the employees that I had been near.  I was so worried that someone would get sick.  Maybe someone from the cruise line will see those constant posts???

Nice rowboat!  😊

@cruisin4us

I wonder where you got information showing that folks who are careful about wearing masks are getting sick??

I am not surprised that folks got sick on this ship where very few folks were taking precautions by wearing masks

🙋🏻‍♀️ It happened to me.

We too were in the May 2-14 Royal Princess round trip from Vancouver to Alaska. Our first venture out very far after two years of laying low but far from our first Princess cruise. An easy cruise for us since we live 20 miles from Canada Place pier.

Overall we were impressed. Crew was great as always. We found the food to be excellent onboard. No Covid for us during or after. We religiously wore our masks onboard in public areas until seated for food or drink. And we weren’t alone… I did several surveys of people wandering the ship and every time came to a figure of 60-70% wearing masks. I really think they should have stuck with so called “Mandatory” masks inside though some would still push it I’m sure.

Bottom line is that Cruising is risky for Covid transmission. We would consider doing another soon but not sure what we would do if once onboard almost no one could be bothered to wear masks inside.

I assume only if everyone provides a negative result of a Covid test taken within 3 days before boarding.

We get off the ship tomorrow in Vancouver. Still don't know where we are going. The ship's doctor just called to make sure we have enough of our other medicines until we get home. First person that seemed concerned.

We will have to pay for our hotel with reimbursement through insurance or Princess. $100 each per diem for food. Thank God we have credit cards with a lot of available credit, don't know what we would do if we didn't.

FYI, according to the Canadian government cruise lines are supposed to make and pay for quarantine.

And that’s why we canceled our August 8th cruise to Alaska from SF right before our final payment was due.  Too many issue that we don’t want to possibly contend with.  We’ll rebook one of these days!  Princess already canceled our cruise for 2021. Sigh. Maybe three’s a charm.

I have posted about my experience on the What happens in Quarantine? thread so I won't repeat it here apart from to say DH tested positive yesterday so we are on day 2 in quarantine and we are doing ok so far. We took the view that we didn't want to spread it around the ship but he caught it on board..no idea who from.

Currently on Royal, departed Vancouver last night May 28th, disappointing to see so many people not  wearing masks indoors, was in an elevator tonight heading for dinner , this man got in without a mask , started to speak rather loud ( for my benefit)  , “ nobody is going to tell me to wear a mask “  It’s clearly marked at every elevator that masks MUST be worn . We will continue to wear our masks as much as possible , hopefully we will avoid getting this disease, I just wish fellow passengers think of others with their selfish actions.  . On a positive note , really enjoying the cruise so far , crew excellent , lovely dinner last night , hearing weather will be kind to us as head north .
