Thanks Roy.  No worries - I’m very cognizant of it.  I found it ironic with the date of my surgery.  A year ago to the day, Jose had finally been moved to the transition ward to go to the nursing home.  He was happy with all the interaction and we had a great conversation.  I was so encouraged not realizing it was his effort to rebound before death. 😢

Hi    may your surgery go well today, and not too painful recovery.   I hope your trial with new dog goes well. (toys look good)  He seems like a good match and will give you lots of love.  A little distraction for anniversary of your dear husbands passing.  After loosing my cat Jerry a number of weeks ago, I have put in an application for a new kitten (or 2) at our local rescue.  House is too quiet.  Take care and stay strong.  My best wishes for those on the care list, and celebration list.

Yeah! New thermostat and cabin temperature is returning to normal.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Finally! Thank goodness. I don't think I could manage being so cold. Others feel better cold than warm; not me. When I get cold it is teeth chattering and bone chilling then it takes a very long time to warm up afterwards.

Good afternoon and Happy Wednesday from the lovely Volendam at sea today. Like Carolyn @Cruising-along, I had a bad night sleep. I think it was the red wine I drank last night at the Pinnacle Grill Cellar Master dinner. I decided to go at the last minute and sat with two of my trivia friends. I need to remember not to drink red wine.

It was very delicious and I am thinking about going to the Canaletto Cellar Master dinner on the 30th.

Bruce @aliaschief, oh my goodness I don’t think I could stand it being that cold in my cabin!

Laura @TiogaCruiser, I saw pictures of the seafood boil on the HAL fan’s Facebook page. It looked wonderful but way too much food for me. From what was posted everyone raved about it.  BTW, I am in the Ocean Bar and just was watching the line dancing. It looked like you were having fun.

Debbie @dfish, Happy Happy Birthday!!  Enjoy your special day! 🎈🎈🎈

Blessings to all undergoing surgery today. Cheers to everyone celebrating today.

Having mentioned both my remodeling plans and HGTV, I'll share some of what I'm doing. Please keep in mind that this is for entertainment. I don't mean to criticize anything that you like or have!

In the bathroom, based on HGTV, design magazines, and forums on other sites, I've discovered that I'm violating almost every rule of contemporary bath design, both by including things that are considered passé and by omitting almost everything that is promoted as must have:

  • Room will not be expanded beyond its present size of 6×7 feet. The trend is to cannibalize an adjacent bedroom, which in this smallish house would hurt any future sale.
  • Won't have a freestanding tub (no space or desire).
  • Won't have a walk-in shower (ditto).
  • Will have an old-fashioned tub-and-shower combo (it's the only full bath).
  • Won't have double vanities (no space).
  • Won't have a separate "throne room" (ditto).
  • Won't have a big picture window with a view of the ocean or mountains (not near either of those, the view is unattractive, and there are nearby neighbors).
  • Will have wallpaper.
  • Won't have a crystal chandelier (code violation).
  • Won't have a mirrored wall instead of a medicine cabinet. Will have a medicine cabinet.
  • Won't have any Carrara marble. Won't have any natural stone whatsoever.
  • Will have Corian or similar (ease of maintenance is the top goal).

The one thing that will even slightly trendy is a wood-plank ceiling. The idea is to give

a Scandinavian spa feeling even though there will be no spa features. The wallpaper is to give a faint impression of a coastal view. This photo was helpful because the white fabric suggests how it might look with white fixtures and a white counter.

I'm sorry to hear that Sharon!  At least you liked the dinner...it looks delicious!

Red wine gives me a headache, so I can't drink it.  Who knows, if I did it might keep me awake too.  Truthfully I don't sleep well ever unless I'm sick (that's how I knew I was getting over Covid, I wasn't sleeping well again) or on a rocking BHB.

I watch HGTV out of curiosity and for some good ideas. While white looks crisp and nice if you have pets it is probably not a good idea.... and I always worry about those free standing tubs under the windows. How expensive is one way glass?

That's also a reason to have all cabinets with doors in the kitchen, not open shelves no matter how much the TV personalities rhapsodize about them.

I have gotten some good ideas while watching these shows, although the ideas were almost never anything that they actually did on the show.

That looks delicious, Sharon.  We never do those dinners because I get migraine from red wine, but looking at your menu, most are white wines.  They'd probably substitute a champagne or something for the one red wine.

Sorry it affected your sleep, though.  I'd be bouncing off the walls all night from that dinner.  Sometimes worth it!  😍

We had an outstanding presentation today that was very well attended and received by guest. It basically told of what goes on behind the scenes on how the ship functions and its complexity, and crew interactions. Second time they have done it.  In the end many of the crew from different departments came on stage. Reminded us of days of yore. I’m happy to report that this has been a very good cruise experience. Menu’s have been well planned, not many repeats, tasty and service like days of old. That being said we are in late 7:30 upper fixed dining and many tables are empty. Entertainment has been versatile and entertaining. I believe someone at Hal has been listening.

Today we still have 29 cases of Covid and only 3 new cases so numbers are going down and surprisingly many are voluntarily donning mask when in showroom and moving around the ship. The only way you know someone is quarantined in their cabin  is a tiny red dot on their cabin door.

We don’t gamble but the Casino has been really busy when we pass by during the day and at night.

Sharing a table with @KurtNC and wife Barbara at tonight’s David Burke dinner. Last we heard eighty guest have signed up.

We arrive in Victoria around 11:00 AM tomorrow.

Life is really good on the MS Eurodam!

So sorry to hear those antibiotics weren't effective.  Hopefully the doctor can give you some answers today and a better prescription for Sam.

It's so nice to hear your refreshing post on your experiences on the Eurodam.  If you listen to one particular poster (not on this thread) there is absolutely no entertainment on their ship, food is okay, and their fellow American passengers retire for the night immediately after early dining.  The non-Americans are fun loving people who enjoy dining later at a shared table.  He seems surprised when he's seated with Americans at 7:30 pm.  DH and I have been late traditional diners since 2008 and all of our cruise buddies are too.  If it weren't for all the information about the ports they have visited, I wouldn't read it at all.  JMHO.

Thanks for sharing about your experiences.  I hope the weather is nice for your Victoria visit tomorrow.  It's such a pretty city to walk around.  Have fun!

Good afternoon!

Where to start?  @ottahand7, @superoma, @Quartzsite Cruiser, @aliaschief, @RMLincoln, @ger_77, @marshhawk, @Seasick Sailor, @cunnorl, @Love the beach, @Crazy For Cats, @AncientWanderer, @durangoscots, @luvteaching, @Cruzin Terri, @Sharon in AZ, @ktbraun.    And anyone else I may have omitted, I am very sorry.  I think I got everyone, but if I didn't mention you in this post or earlier, it is not on purpose.

Thank you so much for the birthday greetings.  I had a wonderful lunch and then we went for coffee and dessert - key lime tart.  Mmmmm.

@TiogaCruiser I would love that seafood boil.  I've made it at home and $35 is a reasonable price.

@ottahand7 hugs and warm wishes to you today.

Ok, time for dinner.  And, yes, I do have room for it!

I've been reading that thread for port information as well.  So far nothing in it has put us off of doing the HAL cruise booked for next year.  They've had unfortunate weather this year, which might be affecting moods.  HAL can't do much about that.

@bennybear   @kazu prayers for you both with medical procedures today.

@kochleffel Thank you for giving us the information on Hedy Lamarr.

Today is a somber day for me as it is the anniversary of my DH's passing in 2015.   Thankfully I was with him at the hospice as he took his last breaths at 9:26 PM.   RIP Gary Lewis

Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports and @StLouisCruisers and @grapau27 thanks for the photos of today's port.  It looks like a nice place to visit sometime.

I will pass on all of the comestibles.     Thanks for researching these for us each day.    Prayers for all on our care list and the people of Ukraine.  Have a nice day!   Nancy

I am so sorry for your anniversary - I’m only hitting my first one and It’s hard and painful.  A prayer for your very poignant time..

I thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes today.  I’m sorry, I am too tired to try to quote or do @‘s.  But please know they are appreciated.

I am home and exhausted - but I didn’t scream. Jerked, bit my lip but I didn’’t scream.   I took Jose (the bear) after a hint from Gerry.   And no one laughed at me at the bone clinic.  When the nurse saw it she offered to let me squeeze her hand when my surgeon reminded her I was alone.  (I declined - had Jose and had already gone through 1/2 hour of it)

Much more than anticipated and bigger wire clippers - yup they use wire clippers.  I tried not to listen to the clips - LOL.  Now we have to see how I manage with the rest.  The hope is I can do well for a few more months or do well all together.  Otherwise - I get to endure this all over again and believe me, it will be much longer.

I’m sorry - can’t get up to date - too tired and too much pain now but I thank you all.

With luck, I will feel better tomorrow.  Bless you all for caring ♥️

This is wild! Luckily we have not seen any hail yet. Havent seen hail like that in a very long time. We are having thunderstorms and intermittent deluges of rain. Suppose to continue for the next few hours. Then return for the next few days. It will certainly help the rain deficit.  You OK up there?

That really is crazy hail!  I've lived in the midwest and other spots that get hail and have never seen that much at one time.  Looks exactly like snow.  I hope everybody is okay down there!
