Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Recommended Posts

Sad to hear about Matt Yee's passing. He was on our very first cruise back in 2008 & very quickly became one of our favorite things about cruising. Along with the best bar staff on the ship & proximity to casino, we found ourselves hanging out at the Schooner Bar every night.  He was on 3 or 4 other sailings & again, most nights we'd somehow find ourselves sitting at the piano. Never did that on cruises without him performing at the Schooner Bar. My wife even got to lead the "Oiy, Oiy, Oiy" (sp?) chant and a singalong while he went to the mens room. 😃. On Anthem,  we got to hang out with him while waiting on line for the bumper cars. Had one of the most interesting conversations with him  regarding his travel.  For such a high energy performer, he was actually quiet and low key when having a one-on-one conversation.

I feel like one of my favorite parts of cruising kind of died with him. 🙁

If anyone is looking for a good read, these are a couple new ones by John Sanford and Michael Connelly.

I finished the Sandford one and I am halfway through the other.

I've started reading the "Prey" series after @bobmacliberty recommended it. I'm now on #30, and "Judgment" is #33. Dreading the day I'll finish the series, all his books are awesome.

And, of course, bought the Connelly one too. Thanks for the reminder. Read all his books.

I have read all of his books.  The problem with finding authors we like, is they can’t write as fast as we read.

I think I actually prefer the Virgil Flowers series (although the Prey series is indeed great).  Lucas Davenport has a small role in the earlier Virgil Flowers books as Virgil's boss, but they are mostly Virgil focused.  I like how his character is not your typical cop.

The latest Prey book I referenced above have Lucas and Virgil teaming up, with pretty equal parts.

Speaking of Advent calendars, since our grandkids were big into Harry Potter this summer, we got all of them these.

I got Advent Calendars too but I am buying for an older crowd. 😀 This year they have a hops forward box or a traditional box. I went for the new box and it has been very popular so far.

Here is just a bit of our experience with Matt.  He was on our sailing, the week before the Atlantis sailing. I guess we were his warm-up cruise. We discovered/heard him from the rising tide bar, and headed over to the Schooner Bar on night one.  We returned every night for the shenanigans.

I thought of you today mema, after reading @aussielozzie18 aussie's post with pictures of her boat ride with her dad where they deliver mail to the surrounding area.  Wasn't it you who did the mailboat trip while in Canada?

Yes, we did the mail run on our NE/Canada cruise but it was on our stop in Portland, Maine, not one of the Canadian ports.  It was on the Casco Bay Ferries and was $17pp with tickets only available the day you are going.  The boat goes 365 days a year and the Captain will narrate if there are more than 10 passengers.  It is BYO food and drink, not a nice lunch like @aussielozzie18 had on her boat ride.  I thinks hers was a wonderful trip to take with her Dad, great memories.  We would definitely do it again if we were in Portland and it was a nice day as it was nice to be our on the water.  It was interesting to see what the people who were going out to their island homes were bringing with them.  We saw many people with collapsible grocery carts taking anything from a step ladder to multiple gallons of window washer fluid to a Tiffany style lamp to their houses.  Some islands had golf carts all lined up at the docks waiting for people and others had shuttle vans.  They loaded and uploaded cargo at all islands but we never stayed for more than 5 or 10 minutes.  We have been to Portland a lot in the past as it is only an hour and a half drive from home, so this was something different for us to do.  🙂

Kyle needs to go. I don’t know what’s gotten into him this season but his attitude and arrogance is out of control.

Totally agree. It was good of Sandy to give him another chance but he is a mess. Unfortunately, the new stu Lily is fairly worthless so I don't think they can afford to lose Kyle now.

So....holiday miracle story time. We knew in the back of our minds that someday our kitty Maxx would figure out the dog door in the slider to the back yard of the rental house we're in while our house is being rebuilt, but we have to have it so our dog Stevie can come and go outside.  On October 5th, Maxx finally figured it out and went missing.

I posted in the FB neighborhood page, had a few "I think we saw a black and white cat" responses, spent days/weeks looking, but nothing.  I guess you never really give up hope, but we gave up hope.

Last night, Andi and I were sitting at the dinner table and heard some meowing.  Not super unusual, since there are a few feral cats around the neighborhood.  Andi went to the back door and sitting at the dog door meowing was Maxx.  Seven weeks later.

He came inside and immediately knew he was home.  No running or hiding.  We put out some water and some of his cat food we had kept in the garage and he wolfed it down like Joey Chestnut at the Nathan's hot dog eating contest.  Tears of joy flowed.  He (and we) barely slept last night but kept going between Andi and me for snuggles and petting pretty much all night long.

He is noticeably skinnier, but no other physical signs of wear and tear.  We sure missed him while he was gone.  Blessed.

So happy your kitty returned. Get a breakaway collar and put a tag on it. Some of the pet stores have a machine that will make the tag with your info if he gets lost again. Also, as A&L said, have him chipped. Vets will scan for free if someone brings him in.

Edited, just saw that you got a collar with air tags. 👍🏼
