First, the question is almost always directed at my husband. Second, when I say I worked at a large corporation (name omitted here) for a few months short of 40 years, the remark I get is "oh, you were a secretary." I love secretaries (now administrative assistants), but it is fascinating the assumptions people make. So wish we were able to cruise. I truly miss it. 🙂

She loves it when she says when asked, she works in the Medical field. Then they generally say, oh, You’re a nurse. She is not a happy camper at that point. 1

When I say our daughter is in education the response is, "Oh she's a teacher." Actually, she is a Professor of Business. That's not to put down teachers in any way. They are the backbones of our culture and society. Thankfully, here in NYC, that "Glass Ceiling" is disappearing, but it's still there. God bless the women who are making the sacrifices to change society!

Coralc Posted July 29, 2020 #263 Share Posted July 29, 2020 I loved talking about my job as an Agricultural Investigator. It was the most interesting job I could imagine. The last 3 years as a manager were not great, part of that was just assisting cannabis cultivators set up operation and endless questions. But I'm recently retired now, and I miss the interesting crop cop things. More time to travel and nowhere to go.

And the department budget started very well this year but the outlook for the next few years is poor. But 32 years of an interesting job was a pleasure. To many retired annuitants in the work force. Especially in the upper levels. Rampant in DC. Nothing personal though. 3

M8 On our very first cruise I requested a table for 8. No one ever showed up to join us. One night the table was full. When they asked what we did for a living my dh said he was a maintenance mechanic. The person who asked physically turned her back on him and chatted with the others. Total snub.
Bloodgem Posted July 29, 2020 #269 Share Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) We have only witnessed one D+ moment which left us shaking our heads in disbelief. A gentleman was complaining bitterly, to anyone you would listen to him, about how disgusting it was that Officers did not recognise he was a D+ from the D+ pin he always wore. He did not expect normal crew to recognise the pin but expected Officers to recognise D+ pins. And yes he did actually say "I do not expect normal crew to recognise the pin but I expected Officers to recognise the D+ pin". We were having dinner in CK and a couple sat down at the table beside us. Tables are close, so it is kind of rude not to say good evening as someone sits and says hi. We acknowledged them and went on with our appetizer. The man in the couple then started to interrogate us, are you pinnacle too, to which I replied we don't go there, his wife smirked, he said huh? He then asked again and I said the same thing, his wife then said to him, they don't discuss it. He said to her, well how are they in here then, to which she said, maybe they are in a suite. He then started on how suites are too expensive and they don't sail them. I told him we enjoyed it and had gotten a great rate as there had been great sales on this sailing. He kept at the C&A thing and said the top tier was tomorrow, to which I said, that's nice and continued with my app. He then asked about our C&A status again and I told him it really didn't matter. At the end of the meal, we said goodbye and I told him I would wave to him at the top tier. We saw them almost every night in CK but he never asked us again but always said hi as they went to their table. I am wondering if we ran into that same guy...I finally had to leave. 😮 Funny true story: We were getting on the elevator one day, when an obnoxious woman let us know loudly that she had just made Emerald...was really bragging about it. She asked our status, and I told her "Oh...we never made Emerald"...to which she snorted "Oh....you might make it one day!"...as she left at the next floor. At which point both of us burst out laughing. 😄 We were on a long cruise during "the change" going from Platinum to Diamond some years previous. So it's true, we jumped right over that short span of Emerald level...and drats...never got the pin. 😄
