Poll: If Royal Doesn’t Require A COVID-19 Vaccine For Its Passengers, Would You Still Cruise with RCI???

  1. 1. Would you cruise on a Royal ship even if RCI doesn’t require the passengers to have received the COVID-19 vaccine?

    • Sign me up, I already received the vaccine or plan on getting it before I go on a cruise so I’m not concerned if it’s not required for others.

    • Sign me up. I do not have immediate plans to get the vaccine. I would provide a negative viral test result or documentation of recovery prior to boarding, if required, and follow RCI’s requirements for social distancing, washing hands, and wearing a mask when social distancing wasn’t possible.

    • I do not plan on cruising with RCI in the foreseeable future regardless of the vaccination requirements.

I only heard about false positives on the Quantum sailings in Singapore.

Ok thanks.  My point would be RCI would’ve used it as a learning point for going forward.

Yes, I understood.

the problem (which is a very good thing) is Singapore has the virus under control much better than the US.    So it would be difficult to compare a sailing in Singapore going nowhere to a sailing out of the US that has to go somewhere.

A good Unvaccinated cruise to compare to would be MSC Grandiosa which has been sailing out of Italy since last July/August other than several week pause during the holiday spike in cases.    They have had a couple positive cases and have dealt well with them.

I used to love cruising. Often I was cruising several times a year. That was until March 2020 on a stuck at sea cruise. I will not cruise until the world is safe,  vaccinated, and open.  Having been stuck at sea last March with no ports open, not much open on the ship, waiting to get off, I  am not rushing to travel.

Would you or wouldn’t you?

hard, not enough choices.  We are getting the vaccine against our wants and wishes because we want to cruise and think it will be a requirement.  Neither of us wants it, but know we have to get it.  As of yet, my 77 year old husband cannot still get an appointment.  I am only 64 so cannot even get it.

If you haven't read it, Happygcruiser posted a great post on the MSC board about cruising on the MSC Grandiosa under "COVID measures" and how it was handled:

"We spent last week on board of Grandiosa. We encountered 2 last minute itinerary changes, and also to end the cruise in an interesting way, the activated "COVID measures".

First the order of the ports were changed, then we were not allowed to leave the ship in Naples, so we sailed instead  of a sea-day to Messina also.

We had a test 48 hrs before leaving, and at the  port in Genova. Then one on the ship in Valetta, and an optional PCR test in Palermo (to be able to return home), the PCR costed 80 EUR/person.

During the cruise you HAVE  to wear the wristbands they provide.

Friday night around 23:30 we received a call in our cabin, that one of my family members was indentified as a contact to a"possible COVID" case, and they need to isolate that person. We can choose whether we join as a family, or let go that person alone. The were not sure what will happen afterwards, so we decided to stick together.

During the night, we had to pack, and we were moved to a closed area of the ship, to another balcony cabin. (We got 2 interconnecting cabins.) We were allowed to use the internet for free, the pay-tv, order room service, and we ordered food from the restaurant.

But we couldn't leave our rooms.

We were told that Italian authorities will decide whether we can go home with our car, or they will transport us.

Whatever we ordered they brought to us, by people in full HAZMAT suites...

We noticed, that we left a pair of shoes in the old cabin- we were in a rush to leave- and we asked them to check it for us, but they said that the cabin is locked for 72 hrs... So we left shoeless.

After all for disembarkation we were escorted off the ship as priority, but we had to wear also full HAZMAT suits. Then they brought us to our car with a van. As a nice touch we were given packed lunches, so we didn't need to stop for anything.

So COVID protection works". 🙂

Here in America, we have a me-first attitude when it come to the vaccines.

You have every right to your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. Some of us are close to being eligible, but are not, and we have immediate family members 30 or more years younger who are getting the vaccine for one reason or another, and accept that.

I believe most Americans are good and not selfish.

Best of health and happiness to you and your family.

Thank you for your respectful reply.  It was a breath of fresh air  You may be right about most Americans.  I hope you are.  The question is whether decision makers reflect the best instincts of the American people.  I hope they do.  My point was that the pandemic will only end for America when it ends for the rest of the world as well.

Best to you and... Let's Go Mets!

Thank you for this detail.  Hopefully everyone is okay now that you are home.  I guess you will pack extra shoes for next cruise.

Oh sorry it was confusing, but it wasn't me on the ship but just me copying a post by Happygcruiser over on the MSC board - I didn't know how to bring the quote over here from there so that's why I put "If you haven't read it, Happygcruiser posted a great post on the MSC board about cruising on the MSC Grandiosa under "COVID measures" and how it was handled" and then copying their info. I really need to learn how to bring a quote over from one board to a different board so it shows the author 😉

I'm with you though, I hope they are all A OK at home! 😁

personally I hope vaccinations required for all and I certainly won't sail on a ship that doesn't require it. and no it isn't just my and others safety I am concerned with. I want my cruises to be relaxing and as low risk as possible, but just as importantly I also don't want to find the ship is banned from a port because someone unvaccinated is found to have come down with Covid a day into the sailing which then triggers a whole heap of other inconveniences or forced into a lot of other excessive safety procedures.

Well, I got the opposite impression. I surmise minimum age for boarding will be the minimum age that can be vaccinated. I guess we will have to wait and see. However, If that is what ports of call will require in order to open up to ships you can bet everyone in the ship will be vaccinated.

I am hoping you're right.  I think that once one of the mass market lines makes a decision with the approval of the lawyers and bean counters, then the other lines should follow regarding whether or not non vaccinated kids will be allowed on board.

It will be very interesting to see if Disney decides to wait until a vaccine is available for kids or not to resume cruising.

I would be ecstatic if Royal Caribbean would require a vaccination to sail. It would eliminate a group of people that more often than not are just somewhat annoying and obnoxious in person over the last 3 or 4 years.

I'm vaccinated fully now. So bring it on. 🙂 I expect even with the vaccinated, they'll still at least at first be more conservative with mask requirements and such. That doesn't bother me too much. We need practical experience with actual sailings, without overreactions should there be any issues, to see just how things work out in different circumstances, and being vaccinated is simply going to be an important one to explore in that manner.

With limitations on capacity likely, as well as limited numbers of ships for a while, such limitations, even including having no children under 16 aboard for some time, aren't going to leave much of the supply with no demand.

Just had to ask. Did you work in a managerial position at the GM Linden plant? Face looks familiar.

Let me ask you....if a group of 6 adults get on the ship and they are unvaccinated and 2 days into a 7 night cruise 1 or 2 people of this group feel sick and test positive.  Will you be okay with quarantining in your cabin because you were near that group at the pool or restaurant?  Will you be okay if rcl has to return to port to get them medical help and cancels the remainder of your cruise.

I know I would be very upset if that happened while on our vacation.

We take risks every day. That’s a risk we would most likely take. Besides if I had vaccine why would I be quarantined because an unvaccinated person got sick. Vaccines are 95% effective. I’ve not seen any mandate put out by cruise lines validating your “what if” scenario.

The government rarely has our best interests IMO.  I would argue that they are doing a fine job vaccinating the population who need it most though.  I read somewhere that if you have “consumed at least 100 cigarettes” you are eligible in a certain area - a bit strange but so be it.

One could also argue that since we are the richest, most well off nation in the world why not allocate some of our vaccines to other countries who need it but might not have the resources.   Just my opinion and I’ll get flamed for it but I was raised to share good fortune with others!

I have been vaccinated but my wife has not and she is unable to because

of a health issue.  As much as I will miss cruising we will not cruise if

vaccination is required.  Wonder what will happen to our prepaid cruises?

Well said!  I also heard the thing about smokers which did indeed seem strange.

I also totally agree with your philosophy of caring for others and the sharing of our blessings!
