What is your favorite aspect for cruising

In other words-why do you cruise as opposed to taking an all inclusive vacation or a structured tour of some sort? What is your attraction to cruising? I guess mine is I love being on the ship on the water with the ocean motion (within limits of course). I love just wandering around or not. Participating in the activities or not. Trying new and different food every day. Having a Casino handy. Meeting new people.....etc. And you all?

I find it painful to sit for long and we live less than an hour from the nearest cruise port. So, for me, the biggest advantage of cruising is that I just have to get to the port and then the world comes to me.

Of course, I love cruising anyway, which is why it works so well for me. Lots of new people to meet; entertainment laid on if I want it; the ability to be almost completely independent onboard so that OH and I can do our own thing (I have a disability); a good cocktail menu; new foods to try etc

Getting off the boat.  Most of the on-board merriment ranges from tedious to puerile. The attraction of cruising is to go places where taking a boat makes practical sense.  Second favorite if it happens is rough weather.

Exactly !!!😀 That's what I do especally one day when we're at a port where I might not feel like getting offf at. The DH loves either the pool/casino during the day (she's very limited in her walking distances) so she and my sister are busy doing either or both during the day. While I will spend the day out enjoying the balcony then will walk around the outside and many of the inside decks, just exploring the ship. I LOVE the vastness of the ship, and enjoy exploring both inside and out. I'm not a roast in the sun 'pool' person, so I leave that too those who enjoy it. I know many love to sit in the sun, read, drink or sleep. And isn't that what its supposed to be about ? Doing what one likes OR doing nothing at all, if it makes them happy.

After a number of cruises, the novelty has worn off — and the quality of the on board experience (food, music, service, entertainment) has declined, and short time in port means that any place worth seeing does not get enough time, while places not worth seeing are not worth any time.

My current interest in cruising is transportation  - just getting across an ocean or escaping northern winter for a bit.

Been to most of the ports in the world, so for us it is no cooking, cleaning etc allowing more time to get out walking, attending enrichment lectures and also finding a quiet place to sit & chill and watch the ocean. Escaping the Pacific NW rain is also a big motivator.

That's part of what sent us away from cruising and now we'll see.  We're very port/destination oriented so hopefully we can find enough pre/post cities that the short port times will be okay.  It's appealing to us that Oceania has longer port days and seemingly more of them.

We like the all inclusive resorts like sandals, but while they do have entertainment it can not compare to larger rccl ships . A lot of what you said can be applied to resorts also, sandals has more restaurants than most cruise ships. But we do about 4 or 5 cruises then a sandals.

used to do land based resort with time share but; after twenty years that had worn thin, seeing the same buildings, scenery, people ...  Cruising is the ultimate bang for our buck. We are people lovin' types and being on board a ship in the middle of the ocean lends itself to interaction with other passengers and crew. It can be educational even at this late stage in our lives we are still learning new things. The casino is a plus as both my wife and I are fans of gaming. The entertainment at sea is some thing we look forward too.  There's just soooo much that cruise m holiday's offer that we will be at it til in our nineties. 🤞

We have moved to doing cruises in conjunction with land trips (next up Singapore, then Spain).  Over the past few years seems the mix between the cruise and land portions of our trips ranges from 50/50 to 70/30.

You know I'm not sure what our favorite aspect of cruising is, but for us a big factor is the convenience.  I almost forgot.  Another big factor is that cruises are a good  option for family group vacations.

Due to disabilities cruising is the only form of travel I can do.My favorite thing about cruising is meeting people and having wonderful conversations.I wear message tee shirts on board and sometimes in port.

I have met and become friends with people on every cruise I have been on.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, not having to pack, unpack and lug our luggage around is a huge plus. Also, this past year I've loaded up my Kindle with several books I hope to read out on deck. If I'm busy and dont finish them all-that's OK. 10 of our 15 day cruise will be at sea and I can not wait.

Seeing a different place each day without the slog of packing and unpacking endlessly.

^^^THIS^^^

My three favorite vacation modes are cruising, travelling in our travel trailer, or staying five or more days in an apartment or boutique hotel in an interesting place. What do these share? Packing and unpacking once (twice if you count what you do before heading home)!

Unfortunately, dr'spin is still attracted to "if it's tuesday this must be belgium" bus tours and we are scheduled for two before our next cruise! Working on the packing list for 12-day Central Europe next week!

And then there is the aspect of "being forced to do nothing". Knit, read on KIndle, sit in the Crows Nest with a boat-drink... It's pretty wonderful.

And that's what makes me want to go home.  I LOVE to cook and really start to miss it.  I know that I'm in the minority.

I have never enjoyed cooking, even toasting bread is a drag for me. I dont know if its the time, the mess, the washing up, or what?

My partner can spend hours cooking and it takes us minutes to eat it.

I have done all inclusive resorts.  And will do them again.

I have done, and do, land vacations.

And I like cruising.  I like being on the water.  I like the ability to do things or not do things.  To relax and unwind.  I don't care where the ship goes.  I will find something interesting to do there, or maybe just stay on the ship.
