The other side of the coin being alone ( 92 y/o FIL) who we see mentally declining because of this. He lives for his kids/grandkids/great grands and not seeing them is taking a toll. We take him groceries and to necessary appointments. So is it wise to watch the digression or chance making him happier seeing above mentioned. It's not easy on anyone. The Senior citizen, and the rest of the family, should quarantine for at least two weeks. Stay only in the house, order groceries, no outside visitsor visitors, then IMO they can get together. Still best to wear a mask indoors unless eating- I would also suggest no bodily contact- save the hugs and kisses.
Seville2Cabo Posted December 10, 2020 #52 Share Posted December 10, 2020 The last 10 years we have spend Christmas and New Years in Cabo. Great restaurants and fireworks are unbelievable. This year we will be in AZ. Cabo canceled Fireworks and the restaurants options are pretty limited.
George C Posted December 10, 2020 #53 Share Posted December 10, 2020 While we love to travel and to cruise we always stay home Christmas, airports are too crowded. So turkey dinner for the two of us with some very nice wine.

It's just sad all around especially for those who don't see any other option. As for the double standards I used my common sense and listened to the scientist and medical professionals from the beginning and not some idiots. I do as well. Its why I haven't gotten it yet nor has anyone in my family of 7. 4 are in health care, 2 are college students and work retail, and husband travels all over for work. We wear our masks, goggles at work and stay away from people and crowds. We do online shopping with pickup to avoid crowds. But we also exercise outside as much as possible and dont sit in house all day when home. It works for us.

We wear masks where requested, dine in restaurants at least once a week, go shopping as needed, have gone to casinos, gone to activities with friends, a Christmas parade, and had Thanksgiving with my son. We plan to have Christmas with him also. It works for us.
cruisegirl1 Posted December 10, 2020 #56 Share Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) We have a small beach condo in North Myrtle Beach. NCMtnBoys Posted December 10, 2020 #57 Share Posted December 10, 2020 We're renting a cabin in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN for four nights beginning Dec 24th. Will enjoy the fireplace and hot tub while chillin' in the Smoky Mountains. We live three hours away in the mountains of NC, but there's just something special about the Smokies. We did take a Christmas cruise one year but likely won't do another Christmas sailing.
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted December 10, 2020 #58 Share Posted December 10, 2020 We would have been cruising through Antarctica, but instead we will be home just the 2 of us and do a Zoom with family to open presents.
Sunshine3601 Posted December 10, 2020 #59 Share Posted December 10, 2020 We did "home alone" for Thanksgiving and I really enjoyed it. Christmas without seeing family is just too strange to me so I came up with a great plan (at least I think so). We are doing a Garage Christmas! WooHoo!! We have a large 2+ car garage and I have come up with a plan on decorating the garage and setting up chairs for our 2 adult sons and their girlfriends to visit on Christmas Day. After they leave I plan on making a nice surf and turf dinner. My Brother and his Wife will come the following day. We have not seen any of them in months. I'm excited just to see our boys. Everyone will wear masks and no eating or drinking as my DH is one of those high risk people due to being immuno-compromised, etc etc.

We are entering the dreary winter season so the thought of getting away sounded good but will look forward to next year. Thanks for the suggestions, we do plan a three week Florida rode trip next November to scope out retirement options, Naples is on our radar. Guess we will make the pilgrimage to our formal dining room after all. We're leaving Michigan mid January for Florida and will be south for 2+ months. Naples-Fort Myers is a great area to check out for retirement. We'll be moving there permanently in a couple years.
Jam0610 Posted December 11, 2020 #61 Share Posted December 11, 2020 Big Ceder Lodge, MO. Just a short get-a-way, as a couple. Only place we have gone all year. Did book Liberty out of Galveston for Oct 31, 2021.

GTO-Girl Posted December 11, 2020 #63 Share Posted December 11, 2020 We will be having the family over as we always have on Christmas Eve. We also got together at Thanksgiving and had a lovely time. We have taken vacations to Florida four times this year and have been on long weekends trips to Savannah several times. We returned to our gym in May of this year and we are there at least 4-5 times every week. We dine inside restaurants every week and I continue to get regularly get my hair and nails done. Our granddaughter is in a school system that fortunately has had in school learning from the beginning so we also able to attend all of her sporting events in person. We wear our masks if it is required, wash our hands frequently, try to keep a 6ft buffer and never touch our face or nose! We are both around 70, so not spring chickens but we decided we will be reasonably cautious but will not give up a year of our life and I cherish the memories we have made this year! But please know that I do respect that everyone needs to do what is comfortable for them. I pray this awful virus will be eradicated soon!!
Rare little britain Posted December 11, 2020 #64 Share Posted December 11, 2020 In my little part of the world there is no C. Yes. Really. All restaurants, pubs, shops etc open as normal: no one ever wears any masks, and there is no social distancing. I think we are the only place in the UK where there was a pantomime and a big Christmas light switch on with thousands attending. So life is perfectly normal and we will have a perfectly normal Christmas eating and drinking with friends. Anyone can come here and live a normal life once you’ve done 2 weeks quarantine which is strictly enforced to keep this place safe and healthy. And normal.

Not knowing your particular situation the CDC guidelines are as follows so you may not have to give up on Christmas since there are still 14 days until then: after 10 days without a test if the person has reported no symptoms after 7 days with a negative test result if the person has reported no symptoms
firefly333 Posted December 11, 2020 #73 Share Posted December 11, 2020 Miami has a midnight curfew. One more reason not to vacation in a big city. Pick a uncrowded beach this winter. I'm dying for a vacation myself. But staying put hoping for vaccinations, but I keep hearing of this or that group who wants to push to the front of the line. This morning, its uber. Priceline has some awesome prices for Galveston I'm trying to resist.
