Please stop the Suite/Tier Negativity

My husband and I were mistreated in the CL lounge by a group of D+ and Pinnacles. We purchased a suite and were told by a couple members of this group that we should go to the DL. We gave no indication of our level. It is interactions like this that place bias on levels and stateroom categories.

That's a shame, and please realize there are jerks in all walks of life.  They were jerks as Gold, Platinum, and Diamond as well...guaranteed.   And don't toss out all D+ and Pinnacles...most of us are actually pretty welcoming.  🙂

Didn't make sense they wanted to send you to the DL, if they did not know what your level was.   Also, must have been awhile, since D+ are now kicked out of the CL.

We were targeted by someone on our last cruise. We were in a suite and every time we walked in the lounge he asked to see our cards. When we were being escorted off the ship the last day he asked to see them again to make sure we were in the right place. He was lucky I was able to ignore him. Once we were off the ship and our Uber arrived he and his wife jumped right in. I quickly pointed out the problem to the Uber driver and they had to get out. He very nicely asked me if they could share the Uber and drop them at the airport. His whole attitude changed once he was off the ship. My answer was a firm no. Maybe if we were going in that direction and our car wasn't full I could have been guilted into it but it was sweet revenge.

Wait a second,  this was a guest asking to see your cards?  Why the heck didn't you tell him to mind his own business?

I was thinking the same thing.

I would have relied: "I'll show you mine when you show me yours! 😯

Didn't need to see his card as he was wearing a pinnacle pin. But that would have been a great response.

I think John&LaLa and M8 are in cahoots to "like" each others posts to drive up their rankings! 😉😇

Good to see Host Bob still close to the top, even after 6 months after he retired.

Unfortunately, rude people can exist in practically any venue and I can only offer my sympathy to anyone who has been made to feel uncomfortable or unwanted in an SL or a CL.  As a solo cruiser who has been put off by a few cliques of Pinnacles over the years as either a Pinnacle myself or as a Suite Guest,  I can totally empathize.  On a positive note, there have been far more warm groups of Pinnacles and Suite Guests along with D+ (when they were still allowed in the CL) that have welcomed me.

If you have been mistreated by other guests, you should have reported that immediately to the concierge for clarification and correction and not wait until a later opportunity in CC. The way you (non-)acted can ruin your vacation quickly and will not help fellow cruisers when they come into the same situation originated by these "groups".

You may be right, but the tone places this in the "blame the victim" category.

In all honesty, I have never seen much suite or tier negativity on this board.  I have found the high tiered or those who book suites who post of the Royal forum to be remarkably helpful and welcoming to lower tiered/standard stateroom dwelling folks like myself. While I'm sure there are an incident or two onboard, like what has described by @Tim and Shauna, it is not the norm and certainly doesn't reflect the standard practice of this board. My experience is that when posters start their thread/rant with "I'm D+..." and then proceed list grievances because they weren't given some special consideration that is not an actual perk associated with their status they generally get flamed pretty harshly.

These boards are not unlike any other form of social media.  There are personalities and and persona's that you will connect with and those that you will not.  People's posting will reflect their experiences as cruisers and their current life circumstances.  If life has thrown a few curves at someone expect him/her to have a more negative tone in their posting.  At the end of the day, the best filter for postings and posters you don't like is that little red X up in the top left hand corner of the screen.

We had something similar happen on Oasis when it sailed Port Canaveral.  We were having dinner in CK and a couple sat down at the table beside us.  Tables are close, so it is kind of rude not to say good evening as someone sits and says hi.  We acknowledged them and went on with our appetizer.  The man in the couple then started to interrogate us, are you pinnacle too, to which I replied we don't go there, his wife smirked, he said huh?  He then asked again and I said the same thing, his wife then said to him, they don't discuss it.  He said to her, well how are they in here then, to which she said, maybe they are in a suite.  He then started on how suites are too expensive and they don't sail them.  I told him we enjoyed it and had gotten a great rate as there had been great sales on this sailing.  He kept at the C&A thing and said the top tier was tomorrow, to which I said, that's nice and continued with my app.  He then asked about our C&A status again and I told him it really didn't matter.  At the end of the meal, we said goodbye and I told him I would wave to him at the top tier.  We saw them almost every night in CK but he never asked us again but always said hi as they went to their table.

Interesting thread.  🤔

There has only been two times on one cruise we have been 'targeted' about status or type of stateroom.

The cruise started in New Jersey where a couple pushed past us for boarding and then asked us if were in the correct line 😁  Happily told them yes 😄  On the same cruise, for disembarking, people were grumbling about us being escorted off the ship past the lines.

Oh well - their problem not ours 🙂

Being from Australia, we travel a very long way to cruise sometimes and only cruise once or twice a year so we do tend to spend money to fly comfortably (Qantas Platinum and Lifetime Gold) and to book suites.

We are not interested in the suites with genies - my father was entitled to a military batman at home because of his rank but my mother said no because she didn't want the intrusion so I guess I have picked that up from them.

In all of our cruises on Allure and Oasis. (8), and always booking suites we only had one concern in the suite lounge during cocktail hour. Upon arrival the majority of seats were taken except for 9 ( I counted them) chair seats to the left of the bar. I approached them put down my plate and was waiting for the bartender to take my drink order.  No sooner than my plate was in the table an elderly lady gold pin status spoke loudly and told me those seats were saved.
I looked at my husband and he gave me the get off your broom look and I responded  “ oh when the 7th person arrives I’ll gladly move.  But for now there is enough room for all of us".
She was not happy. But I held my ground.
After one hour we left those chairs and guess what ? not all the saved seats were filled.

Funny though we re sailed with her  last May on Allure. And she did not remember me. And there were only 12 pins on that May cruise.

I have learned to play nice. But come on saving 9 seats is a little much. Two or 3. Ok but really.

I often contemplated going to an office store and getting a gold pin made but I would put diamond underneath my name.  But why agitate.

They earned there right for suite lounge.  Just share.

I am sure they have encountered worse suite guest than I.

Stay healthy.

What is a “military Batman” ?

It is an old tradition of providing a personal aide to high ranking military.  Here is a link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_(military)#:~:text=A%20batman%20or%20an%20orderly,officer's%20kit%20during%20a%20campaign.

My father and mother did not want to do that.

That reminds me of another debacle that occurred.  I remember, several years ago, some RCI employees were handing out employee name tags to some passengers.  That little perk went away quick when some people took it too far and started acting like staff.  🙄

And what exactly do you think the Concierge could or would have done in this case ?

Here is how to view: top of page, hover over activity, click on search, click on member search, search members,  then once that comes up, click on 'sort by' and choose what you want to view.

The one thing every company wants regardless of whether it restructures , or has new owners is a loyal client base.  The only way I see the loyalty program being reset to zero is if Royal ceases to exist and it’s ships are picked up by several other cruise-lines.

I agree.  Why would the cruise line want to alienate the one group guaranteed to book a cruise?  If anything, I see them embellishing the C&A tiers to make things more enticing.

(She said, hoping for a D++ level with a free 3-night cruise, instead of slogging all the long, long way from 175 points to 700 points.)

A few years ago we (group of family) were sitting in the DL (we preferred it because it was a larger area with amazing views) with our one year old grandson (sleeping in his stroller) when a woman across the lounge yelled very loudly "What's a baby doing in here" ? I have never seen such a quick response from not only a Concierge but from many other's sitting around her saying "He's a D+"...she quickly left...It felt at the time that a few were going to break into applause. We never saw her in the lounge again.
